“Magic Grow Safari Animals” and the pursuit of happiness.

Wouldn’t it be nice to be as easily pleased as a 3-year-old?

We’d watch animal capsules transmogrify and all would be well.

Okay… that photo is freaking me out! To see his face flipped upside down on his head is weird!

Did you take the picture knowing that was the case?

    Rachel says:

My son told me the other day that he wishes he didn’t have to grow up!

I think you meant “Isn’t it be nice to be as easily pleased as a 3-year-old?” I’m in my thirties and I still get lost in those little spongy transformations.

Yes, it would. My little brother has been absolutely delighted about starting to play piano with both hands together! Would that my abilities to learn Chopin and Ravel gave me such joy! More often, I approach it like a burden.

    Orison, too, apparently.

That’s how you know you’re getting old. When did you last hear a five year old say:

“I don’t want to go to that party. I bet everyone there will be boring, and I won’t like any of the food.”

Also, you may be middle-aged if you no longer see groups of young people, and start seeing gangs of youths.

Actually, C.S. Lewis said we already “far too easily pleased.”

@ Sam: Then C.S. Lewis was a jerk.

    Myrddin says:

C.S. Lewis wasn’t talking about this kind of easily pleased.

In fact, he also said, “No man could find an abiding strangeness on the moon unless he were the sort of man who could find it in his own back garden.”

This is the quote more appropriate to the situation.

His discussions of sehnsucht are more appropriate for an adult dissatisfaction with being easily pleased, not with native childlike wonder.

Yes, Indeed. If only I could be that easily satisfied.
