Friends and wives are very different, and we need them both.
Molly isn’t my best friend. She’s better.
I have friends; what I need is a wife.
And what a wife she is!

A wife compliments a man better than friends.
Aaaaaaahhhhh. That’s so sweet.
Oops. I just looked this up.
I meant ‘complement’, as in ‘something that completes or makes perfect’
not ‘compliment’, as in ‘an expression of praise, commendation, or admiration’
Both, hopefully, Jamsco.
Yes, assuming that the husband deserves, and will be aided by, the compliment. Sometimes I don’t and/or won’t.

Very nice ‘stuff’ on this in Lewis’s THE FOUR LOVES. It was revolutionary for me.
sweet. :]
yeah, The Four Loves was really formative. i recommend.
That’s a really sweet post.
I, as some others, immediately thought of “The Four Loves” when I read your post.
I agree. I wonder when this all began to change in our culture. When did it become hip to speak of one’s spouse as one’s best friend?
Great post!!!
I consider my best friend to be the one who knows me best — my husband. However, the relationship doesn’t stop there. Is depth of personal knowledge the right measure of a “best” friend?
Agreed Kristin, my DH fulfills both positions and is a father, brother, cousin, Opa…on and on *: )
DH= Dawrl’n Hubby.
I’m curious to know what spurned such a post.
You are such a sweetie Abraham
Yay! Abraham has friends :P …..hehehe…na i get what ya mean ;)
An intriguing thought … do men and women think differently about this? I think we hear the words “You are my best friend” very differently — maybe even to the point that they don’t mean the same thing to men and women.
Beautiful.
