Some bloggers don’t like having their comment threads derailed, but comments aren’t a train.
It’s surprising where comments lead sometimes.
But that’s OK.
I don’t want to be the only one here deciding what’s worth discussing.

I am envious of your comment non-trains.
So what about Brett Favre?
So, anyone else want to talk football? ;)
At the same time, isn’t it simply a matter of respect for comments to bear at least some relation to the post they comment on?
Brett should just slip quietly into the background and help his wife with her charity. “Your yes is to be yes, and your no, no.”
Oooh, look at all these pretty new colors!
Well, now I look stupid. The colors were different at the time I wrote that, I promise.
Speaking of football, how about the new Batman moving coming out this week? Looks like a good one!
I fancy that Will Smith one. It looks hilarious!
I saw an old video from Fresh Prince the other day. Carleton doing the “Carleton Dance” and Will Smith walking in on him. Very funny.
Also, my favorite cheese is Parrano.
Jake,
Those Caribbean colors come up sometimes and I don’t know why. I guess I get what I pay for.
Travis,
You’re right, I suppose, about completely random comments being annoying (except on this post, of course).
What interests me is when somehow the comment thread starts being about something that I didn’t mean to bring up.
I like when this happens because then I’m not in control and can learn more than if every comment fit neatly into what I expected to hear.
BABIES!
Saw the new Will Smith movie. It was just OK. I’m sorta tired of seeing the smart-ass , swaggering, tell-it-like-it-is Will Smith schtick. It’s about as old as Independence Day. And that was ’97.
Still. It wasn’t a bad way to spend a hot summer afternoon.
This thread kind of makes me want to have a regular say-whatever-you-want-to day.
Methinks that bloggers who get upset about off topic comments are taking things personally. Some blog fueds are fun.
Come on Dan Uggla! Get it together!
I appreciate your attitude about comments. I have been told at times in other forums that I have derailed someone’s post, and I couldn’t understand that criticism, since what I wrote was inspired by the original post.
Favre really has had a great career, and I think he could be doing some great things with kids and sports now–not because he couldn’t do a good job for Green Bay again this year, but because it would be great to have more time for other things.
I wish the Rams had been as patient with Kurt Warner since they traded him right after we got our son the whole Rams outfit for his bedroom. Or even the Giants–we’d have loved to have Superbowl cards with Kurt for the Rams AND the Giants.
Yet thanks to NFL fickleness, our son has three different Warner Jerseys–one for each team. He says that wherever Kurt retires, that will be his team for life.
Vanilla is a really underrated flavor. It’s not nearly as bland as people make it out to be.
Steve,
My wife strongly disagrees with you. Her exact quote:
“So boring! What is the point of the calories?”
This has to be one of the most entertaining thread of comments I have ever read.
I agree with you. The blogger sets the agenda for his or her post. The readers should have a certain degree of freedom to set the agenda for the comments (perhaps they should be at least loosely related in some way). If the blogger sets both, then meaningful dialogue ceases.
One has to wonder if Brett Favre likes vanilla ice cream.
Know what I can’t stand? Carnies. Circus folk. Small hands. Smell like cabbage.
Abraham,
How could something so bland ignite such a strong, passionate response?
Think your wife needs to try some Blue Bell brown rim natural vanilla bean ice cream…too much garbage out there masquerading as vanilla that’s giving it a bad name.
I agree with Molly. If you’re going to ingest calories, they ought to be chocolate.
Depends on the vanilla. Vanilla is one of the strongest flavors out there if used right. In ice cream, I have to agree that it is bland.
I generally agree with Molly, but I just had Breyers All Vanilla ice cream last night and I think that was the second time in my life that i’ve actually enjoyed eating vanilla ice cream. Plus, vanilla is used in so much..house sprays, body sprays, candles…ick!
Ah, vanilla — much maligned and under appreciated for its subtle, understated greatness and versatiliy…
What about Brett Favre, in a circus, juggling vanilla -flavored cabbage with Batman on Independence Day 1997in Bel Air?
Dagnabit Mr. Aaron that’s just ridiculous. C’mon now, straighten up. Be serious.
…everyone knows that Batman is a fair-weather Colts fan.
Brett was forced out of the Packers. I do not blame him for coming back. At least he is still doing a great job.
What? Molly disparages vanilla? How can that be? Doesn’t she know that when God said “Let there be ice cream!” He was talking about vanilla? Vanilla is the best. It’s the all purpose ice cream – it goes with anything. For example, it makes apple pie complete. You wouldn’t want chocolate ice cream on that would you? I certainly wouldn’t! I’m not sure if it would be a sin, but I’m certain it would be wrong!
On the other hand, my wife thoroughly agrees with Molly, so even though I disagree with them, I guess they’re in good company.
