I’ve been trying to teach Orison the word perseverate.
I thought, as long as Orison is repeating himself incessantly, it would be funny if, as he perseverates, he perseverated about perseverating.

Why certain tics and habits seem specifically connected to certain types of people.
[P]eople pay attention selectively to…groups they don’t see themselves as belonging to and so locate phenomena as characteristics of these groups.

Language can't ever be anarchic because its essential standards are innate and immutable.
Language has standards like human bodies do.
We know what comprises “standard” bodies, but we don’t influence them to be that way.

The melioration and pejoration of lady
Lady first meant “breadmaker,” then “lord’s wife.”
Now, when I call 911, it’s how I label the person unconscious on 24th street.
