What are your favorite blogs that you’d guess people here are unfamiliar with?
Category: Blogging, Questions, Recommendations
Theme based on Derek Punsalan's Grid Focus.

It wouldn’t surprise me if there were many readers of your blog that read one of my favorite blogs, Amy’s Humble Musings (http://humblemusings.com)
Amy is an excellent communicator through her words, loves her role as a mother and wife, cherishes her children, and points others to Christ.
Sahaja Yoga It’s one of my favorites.
Mike Delorenzo of African Inland Mission, a great writer and photographer -
http://www.delorenzoflyer.com/
The Atherstone family in Kampala Uganda -
http://www.stonesinuganda.blogspot.com/
Love them both for great insight into the African experience and the journey of the human soul.
http://mysnarfle.blogspot.com An amazing photographer, Jules Bianchi, posts a picture of her dog everyday. It’s entertaining.
http://oftheprincessandthepea.blogspot.com
I don’t always agree with her point of view, but she always has something interesting or thought provoking to say.
http://www.ziza.cc/front.asp – an experiment by a friend who wanted to provide a forum for people to post short blog threads, as well as links they found to be helpful. Lots of interesting stories linked at ZIZA.
edgeofthewest.wordpress.com
collective blog of a handful of history dorks, professors, and academics.
I’d recommend my husbands blog
http://garyboalnireland.blogspot.com
a bit of a mix of things
i’d recommend my husbands blog

a mix of things
I like:
YS Marko – Mark Oestricher’s blog. He works making Christian youthwork books available, and updates daily or more often.
http://www.ysmarko.com/
—
Travis Seitler writes in a funny way.
http://travis.webseitler.com/
—
The cartoon blog. Not as often updated as it used to be, but sometimes quite good.
http://www.cartoonchurch.com/blog/
—
The Stuff Christians like blog. V. funny.
http://stufffchristianslike.blogspot.com/
—
The ongoing adventures of ASBO Jesus.
http://asbojesus.wordpress.com/
A daily (usually daily) cartoon strip about churchy things. Provocative and with interesting discussion.
(NB in Britain an ASBO is an AntiSocialBehaviourOrder, which you get for being naughty, iffy, young or all three.)
—
Yoghurt
http://christinedeweerd.blogspot.com/
An art blog with lots of interesting pictures. This used to be in Dutch, but now it’s gone English.
—
There are some other good ones you can get via my blogger profile:
http://caughtnottaught.blogspot.com/
http://fish.blogs.nytimes.com/ – Clear headed thinking by Stanley Fish! Thoughts on writing, teaching, politics etc.
If Flannery had a blog – http://flanneryoconnor.blogspot.com/
http://www.dearfreedom.com
http://www.theprognosis.org
http://www.evolvedrational.com/
Atheist, bilious, profane, (sometimes intelligent), blasphemer, whom Jesus absolutely loves.
I like some creative blogs:
Seth Godin
Dan Pink
Some churchy blogs:
Shaun Groves
Kem Meyer
But most special are by friends.
Analogical Thoughts, a blog by my pal from Scotland, James Anderson. James has two (2!) PhDs, in computing and systematic theology. He’s about to move his family to the US and begin teaching theology at Reformed Theo Seminary in Charlotte, NC. He’s an excellent teacher — good at making the complicated simple. And he’s got the driest sense of humor of anyone I’ve ever known:
http://proginosko.wordpress.com
http://na-dache.blogspot.com/
I have never met the author personally–met his wife once at a Shepherd’s Conference. He and I have had some great correspondence, however, and his blog is great. He is not a frequent poster, but his posts are always enjoyable.
You mean besides my own blog??? ;)
The one that IMMEDIATELY came to mind is one I discovered just yesterday, {dancing} in the margins. Her header is stunning; so are her words. She commented to a post of mine, so I followed her back, was absolutely SMITTEN, so I told her. It was sweet blessing to find out she’s been a lurker at my blog for a while…and FINALLY decided to come out of the closet.
She’s that good: http://dancinginthemargins.typepad.com/dancinginthemargins/
The other blog that came to mind is Written Inc. Carmi is a Canadian journalist, and he sees life through the lens of his heart. One of the most thoughtful and considerate commentors in my tribe.
http://writteninc.blogspot.com/
BTW, I’ve already clicked through to a bunch of these recommendations, and I’ve gotta say…DANG IT!! MORE blogs to add to my reader?
I shall never sleep again.
Jimmy Davis’ The Cruciform Life http://cruciformlife.wordpress.com
Jimmy’s doing something a little different in church planting/house churches. Plus he’s got good stuff on the blog.
I read a few mp3 blogs. This is my favorite:
http://fuelfriends.blogspot.com/
The author provides news, reviews and a consistent flow of live and rare tracks for many artists.
I’ll use this for a shameless plug. If you’re interested in a Biblical Counseling blog, I’d recommend:
David Powlison and Paul Tripp aren’t blogging here but they have impacted these pastors/counselors.
I would also recommend Paul Tripps blog. Although he has been active on it for a while, the posts here are worthwhile.
Sorry – tried to get fancy wrapping my post with HTML.
Here are the links:
CrossHaven Biblical Counseling
http://chbiblicalcounseling.blogspot.com/
Paul Tripp Blog
http://www.paultrippministries.org/
http://hackaday.com/ is a great blog about hacking electronics to do cool new things.
I really like Reid Monaghan’s blog. Reid is a church planter in NJ with Acts29.
http://www.powerofchange.org
Bring the Rain:The Story of Audrey Caroline. She makes me cry most every time I read it.
http://audreycaroline.blogspot.com/
Truth Observed – Del Tackett of Focus on the Family
One in the UK, Peter Dray:
http://peterdray.blogspot.com/
And a ‘christian-hedonist’ Brit in the USA, Ed Goode:
http://edsfalliblethoughts.blogspot.com/
thunderstruck.com
http://alierae.net/blog
Oops. I misspelled the url.
http://alirae.net/blog/
http://wordsfromtheway.com/between-the-trees/ is co-written by a couple of friends of mine. It’s what I find “sharing” on my google reader most often.
They probably read your blog too, though, so they might see this….
I enjoy http://thelawmanchronicles.blogspot.com
http://www.passionforpreaching.net/
Resources for Pastors
– for Christian singles.
– short, good thoughts to start the day.
Other favorites (not church centered):
– quick tips on everyting.
– ardently atheist, always thought-provoking. Good tool to sharpen your critical thinking skills.
Sorry that did not appear correctly (but the links are correct).
Boundless Webzine – for Christian singles.
Of First Importance – short, good thoughts to start the day.
Lifehacker – quick tips on everything.
Scott Adams Blog – ardently atheist, always thought-provoking. Good tool to sharpen your critical thinking skills.
I also second the recommendation of Seth Godin’s blog.
thehaitinurse.com
or
haitirescuecenter.wordpress.com
two sisters who are missionaries in Haiti
I’ll bite and give a plug for one of my own blogs:
http://www.kingdomjournalism.com/
the topic is communication and mission
and the goal is to provide resources and encouragement for “describing God’s mighty works” around the world
Hmmm… I can think of two:
christianincollege.com – is pretty cool as there is generally a decent amount of discussion that comes along with many of the posts.
ayearofbeard.blogspot.com – a weekly celebration, through photographs, of the beard
http://takeyourvitaminz.blogspot.com – some fun on music, culture, and theology.
http://farcountry.wordpress.com – some nerd fun on theology
http://bryanlopez.com – more theology, music, and geeky things.
let me second “stuff christians like” hilarious, thought-provoking, and even convicting. and that’s just the reader comments :D
one of my all-time favs: THE RABBIT ROOM.
http://www.rabbitroom.com
it’s written by a smorgasboard of all kinds of wonderful, thoughtful, creative people. they review books and music, write interesting anecdotes of daily life, hash through the hard stuff, keep me entertained, and rip open my heart with conviction or thanksgiving. i have added more than a handful of books and cds to my need-to-buy list because of their efforts.
it’s pretty amazing. (except for the fact that they don’t allow the whole feed into my reader).
http://padandpen.blogspot.com/
A great blog from Dubai!!!
http://thisisindexed.com/
I second Joshua’s plug for Boundless and Of First Importance. Both are incredibly amazing.
A few others I frequent:
The Blazing Center | Good thoughts on worship
http://www.theblazingcenter.com/
Could It Be That Everything Is Sacred? | Heart thoughts on life, written by a good friend
Boundless Webzine – for Christian singles.
In The Arena | Other thoughts by another good friend
http://girlinthearena.blogspot.com/
Fully Alive | My own blog
http://girlfullyalive.blogspot.com/
Of First Importance – short, good thoughts to start the day.
Sorry… one link didn’t post. Weird random scramble, that above.
Could It Be That Everything is Sacred?
http://www.xanga.com/iwrite86
i really like http://6yearmed.blogspot.com – tales of a pediatric resident, and her writing is just excellent. be prepared to laugh and cry a lot.
How about a new group blog on pastoral theology?
Oratio, Meditatio, Tentatio
http://pastoraltheology.wordpress.com
Blessings,
Allen Mickle
I’d highly recomend:
http://www.lovelylisting.blogspot.com
It’s by a lady who collects weird, strange, and unusual real-estate listings. Such as a house that’s being sold and the only picture is of a patch of grass on the back lawn that’s covered in rusty metal. Or the picture is taken through a peekhole in the door. Very funny and it only takes a second to read!
One of my friends is Bahai, and in researching that faith I found this blog:
http://everymornandeve.wordpress.com/
Gorgeous photos with quotes from Bahai writings.
Bahai is a beautiful religion, but it lacks Jesus. It lacks the paradox of truth and grace in God’s forgiveness of sin. It lacks the joy of being intimate with God through Jesus Christ, being his child, and servant, and lover.
Oh, and someone already mentioned it, but http://alirae.net/ is a moving blog by a girl who works as a nurse overseas. It is such a blessing!
Get Rich Slowly
http://getrichslowly.org/blog
It’s a great daily reminder to me to stay responsible with my personal finances, written by an everyday guy taking charge of his financial life.
blog maverick
http://blogmaverick.com/
Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban writes about entrepreneurship, business, investing, personal finances, politics, sports–it’s a great window into the mind of a highly successful and accomplished man.
Inspiring.
I intern with my church in the finance department and my boss has an excellent blog with the goal of “Shedding Light into the world of finance.” he has excellent daily posts relating to money and Christ.
http://www.chriskakaras.com
I find this post to just be cruel as I am already addicted to checking a few blogs now.
Must be a good steward of time…must be a good steward of time…
http://www.benarment.com
http://www.artofmanliness.com
Just for a laugh, you should visit cakewrecks.blogspot.com on a daily basis
I second Carissa’s recommendation for 6yearmed.blogspot.com.
http://exploration.typepad.com/
always a refreshing perspective found here:
http://www.johnaaronmartin.wordpress.com
My friend Seaton Garrett writes thoughtful pieces at his “Are We There Yet?” blog: http://seatongarrett.wordpress.com
Also, for honest confessions of a believer who struggles with a troubled world and a troubled heart check out “Altogether Too Much Privacy” at http://leonardzlg.wordpress.com
http://holyexperience.com.
The writings of a Canadian farmer’s wife, with their six children…Ann’s amazing writing reminds me to look for the touch of God in everyday life.
ackkk, edit that to:
http://aholyexperience.com
http.//thefoolsgold.net/
(I am a bit biased :-) )
sorry ….
http://thefoolsgold.net/
I bet most here have not heard of the blog I contribute to: Cal.vini.st. I trust all the geeks out there will appreciate the domain name.
As far as other people’s blogs go, I recently came across Preaching Today and have been edified by what I have read. I’m assuming as it is only new to me that maybe you’ve not heard of it either.
I love parchment and pen:
http://www.reclaimingthemind.org/blog/
Enjoy!

For people who are wondering about Calvinism, there is the Responsible Puppet at
http://jamsco.wordpress.com/
The posts on this topic are under the subject “Both Ways.”
A friend of mine publishes a bible study blog. http://www.heargodspeak.blogspot.com
The Blog at Compassion International
http://blog.compassion.com/
By the way, thanks for all the recommendations — I’ve picked up several good ones here today
Brendan Nyhan’s blog about politics at http://www.brendan-nyhan.com
I’m hugely biased because Brendan is my best friend, best man at my wedding, co-author of a book with me, etc. etc.
But he really writes a great political blog from the perspective of a political scientist who trains his analytical eye on politics and the mass media in a very accessible way.
How about Veronica of Toddled Dredge?
http://toddleddredge.com/
I especially recommend her Advent & 12 Days of Christmas posts, if you’re new to her site and want a quick, potent dose of her content and style.
poptpop.blogspot.com
one of blogs of a friend that is an amazing photographer. it is beautiful and hilarious!
poptpop=pictures of people taking pictures of people. (i also like that it is a palindrome)
Our new favorite is:
http://aholyexperience.com
I give Molly the credit on this one for bringing it to my attention, but I pass it along to the crowd on your blog because it is HIGH-LAR-IOUS!
http://www.cakewrecks.blogspot.com
Thanks Molly! I’ve been telling many people about this one.
Justin Childers bog, Cross-eyed.
http://justinchilders.blogspot.com/
[...] @ 9:39 pm The “other” Mr. Piper, at the blog 22 Words, has people busy today recommending other blogs. (Hint, Hint!) Although the comments refer to entire blogs, I’ve done some work for you [...]
The Philosopher’s Playground is a very good place to spur up good discussions, even if I don’t agree with most of the points of view purveyed.
I would like to commend Tony Woodlief, at http://www.tonywoodlief.com His blog is Sand in the Gears. He’s a fine writer. Also, another writer worth your time and attention is Sean Curnyn who posts at http://www.rightwingbob.com on things Dylan and other topics. His conservative politics might rankle some, but check it out nonetheless.
I’m going to brag about my dad. He’s a great writer and thinker whose blog I think deserves a wider audience:
tmdugan.blogspot.com
My wife has put together a blog that I love.
It’s different than a lot of what is out there. She’s using it to tell the story of a fictional little girl named Tevis.
http://www.frogcreekcottage.com
The Paul & Timothy Blog – http://paulandtimothy.wordpress.com/
Stand to Reason – http://str.typepad.com/weblog/
The Rabbit Room
http://www.rabbitroom.com/
from Andrew Peterson & Co.
A kind of public house with warmth, stimulating conversation, and great music. It’s in the tradition of the Inklings.
(disclaimer: I contribute there)
A great one for women who are wives, moms, creative types:
http://phil4beauty.blogspot.com/
One I check regularly is
Thinking Out Loud
http://paulwilkinson.wordpress.com
Also my own blog which is all about sharing Jesus Passionately:
http://apperson.blogspot.com
[...] [HT: A Holy Experience via 22 Words] [...]
Marginal Revolution. Probably the most interesting and relevant of the blogs of prominent academic economists.
http://www.marginalrevolution.com/marginalrevolution/
I. Love. Her.
http://warmpiehappyhome.blogspot.com/
Oh, and many of you may know this charismatic young woman since she is from Minneapolis (and I can’t believe I hadn’t heard of her before because I’m from the Twin Cites too!), but I just found her hil-A-rious blog just today. Whatever will she do someday when she’s carrying a baby in a wrap AND the bucket??
http://cheeseballmolly.blogspot.com/
One that most of you probably don’t know (and admittedly, is oriented toward Biblical Languages, but is still fun) is http://legologon.blogspot.com/
He is a Senior Biblical Languages major at Union University, and is a genius in Greek, and he is my roommate…
Sometimes there are new insights, sometimes just his fun “Word of the Day” (always a Greek word)…
I like reading blogs of missionaries with huge families.
http://lockwoodfamily.blogspot.com/
http://www.calltoobedience.blogspot.com/
I will suggest my mother’s blog if you want some huge laughs. She shares the stories of our crazy family and the wisdom gained through it all, also.
http://mamaangela.wordpress.com/
My pastor has a great blog too. I love reading his. A wide range of subjects from doctrine to politics. Oh, and check out his list of books to help us form our Christmas lists!
