I’m an upper school (11th/12th grade) Language Arts teacher at a small, private school for students with language-based learning differences.

The students most fit for our program are kids with dyslexia (I was pumped at your relatively recent post about dyslexic-friendly website formatting!).

However, we have a spectrum of learning-different kids: dysgraphia, slow processing, ADD (not officially a learning related difficulty)…+ many more.

Not my background or what I thought I’d be doing, but something God’s had me/grown me in since I graduated from college in ’06.

    Lowell Stoltfus says:

    Medical Doctor in India…

I see low income Muslim Weavers in one hospital, I see European travelers in another hospital, I write long emails to people with health problems in remote areas of the world, I skype with others in developing nations, I attempt to diagnose rashes over video skype or from photos sent via email, I explain pain and disease to people in English to people who don’t speak English as their primary language, I comfort, I cry with those who are crying, I laugh with those who are laughing, I sit in amazement at stories of suffering I am told and can never retell, I show compassion when I am bored, I show compassion when my guts are twisted in nausea at the ugliness I hear about, I restore years that which were eaten away, I listen and listen, I say, “I understand” and “We see this sometimes”, I spoon feed those too ill to do it themselves, I quote the Bible, I encourage people to read the Bible, I pray with people, I clean up messes of foul odors and parts, I sew, I hold hands, I say, “I’m sorry” over and over again, I explain and explain, I sit in silence…… at least, that is what I did today, tomorrow might be different.
