A 4-year-old’s perspective on the Santa conversation:
Without Santa, he wouldn’t understand the best Christmas song ever sung by a stuffed reindeer.

Theme based on Derek Punsalan's Grid Focus.

OK, the Orison bit is cute and you’re right about that most excellent of Christmas commedic songs … but this bit by David Sedaris has to top the list of Christmas themed comedy.
By the way, if there are any Dutch out there who can confirm this, please leave me a note at the blog :-)
Abraham, I have been following your blog for almost a year I think, and I must say that Orison is my favorite kid out there. I read a lot of “mom blogs” but he is by far the most entertaining child I know of!
What an quick little fella you’ve got! And, quite obviously, cute and hilarious.
We’ve got a 1-year old so we’re not quite to the Santa bridge that must be crossed. However, I think I like the idea of helping kids enjoy the fun that Santa can be, all the while knowing he is pretend.
Tell Orison thanks for the interview.
I’m glad to hear that Grandma Piper did not get run over by a reindeer.
As long as someone else already mentioned David Sedaris, If you want laugh to the point of pain, check out his NPR bit about working as a Macy’s elf. It makes me shriek every time.
That piece by David Sedaris had me laughing out loud. I am Canadian, but the child of a Dutch immigrant and pastor in a congregation made up primarily of Dutch immigrants. As far as I know this is all pretty true to what I know of Sinterklaas.
OMGoodness! Your little boy cracks me up. :D
Seriously, Orison is flat out adorable and hilarious.
I need a mop now, my heart just melted all over the floor…

Saying Orison is adorable is stating the obvious. You have video proof!
No worry about Santa, but stay clear of his reindeer!
So adorable! Thanks for posting :D
brilliant!
You have to bottle that kid and sell him — because he’s the kid every college-aged girl wishes she had. They’d pay real money to have an Orison tamagachi or something.
Frank.
I don’t know how to interpret your comment. Like, the college-aged girls want to have children like him? I guess I’m thinking that college-aged girls don’t want to be mommies, nor do they want to date four-year-olds. I’m sure I’m just missing something, because usually your comments kill.
But, ANYWAYS….can we send in our questions for you to use in interviews with Orison??? (I don’t have one yet, but I could…)
he is so dang cute!
Don’t teach him the rest of the song.
Don’t worry, he only knows the part that the stuffed reindeer sings: 2 choruses, complete with killer harmonies and a key change.
Oh my gosh! He sounds so grown up when he talks now! I can’t believe how much he has grown–he is still cute as ever though!
You know, I finally figured it out: Orison’s voice sounds like Linus from Peanuts. We watched the Charlie Brown Christmas last night, and listening to Linus made me think of O.
You do have one cute 4 year old, and an especially cute baby… who btw, we haven’t seen much of lately. *hint hint*
[...] gives us some good insight into these great questions. Here is Orison in an interview his dad, Abraham, on Santa Clause. Check it out and feel free to post your thoughts on this [...]
“He’s fun.”
Two words. Abraham, I think your son just upstaged you by summing up a concept in less than 22 words. :-D
Frank Turk, you are absolutely right. As a college girl myself, I can confirm that (at least in my circle of friends) we’d love to kidnap a little boy and coddle him for a week. So much more interesting than studying for finals. ;)
How cute is he?! So smart!

Your kid is hilarious. You guys must laugh all day long!
right around “Grandma didn’t REALLY get run over by a reindeer, i still have my grandma,” i almost died of cuteness overload.
Here is why even the Reformed should believe in Santa.

This is where we’ve decided to come down. It’s not that Santa’s evil, it’s just that he’s pretend.
