Jesus Wants the Rose!

Perhaps you’ve heard Matt Chandler’s rose story before. If not, I recommend it.

It’s excerpted from his message at DG’s pastors conference.

Of the two Chandler quotes our guys walked away from the conference saying, one was “If you’ve got 4$ and you spend 7$ your a dummy.”

The other was “Jesus wants the rose!”

    Excellent.

I love this full sermon. It’s one of the few I’ve listened to back-to-back.

I grew up listening to preachers like that.
People think that if you preach “Jesus wants the rose” then it will encourage everyone to lead sinful lives. I’m saddened at the fact that many of my peers attended church for so many years without truly hearing the gospel.

    Chris says:

Yes, it is definitely worth listening to the whole message.

I also agree with Pam. Another variation of this is when a pastor says something like this: If you do certain sins, Jesus will forgive you, but you will always have the residue from that sin in your life–like that soapy film on a glass from the dishwasher.

That doesn’t sound like Isaiah 1:18 to me.

You could win a Matt Chandler look-a-like contest hands down.

    With a haircut of course.

This is what I needed to hear. I grew up in churches which taught that no one would want you if….

Imagine the effect that has on victims of child sexual abuse who dare not talk. Who would want you? Even God won’t want you if people know.

This had me in tears. This is what I want to teach my children. This is what someone had to say to me before I was willing to face my life, before I was able to know that God really did want me. I held that deep-seated fear that He didn’t, even though I am in Christian ministry myself.

Thank-you. We need to stand up and say this.

    Roger says:

I fear that this message suffers from the same problem it condemns. (forgetting part of Jesus’ message.) YES, Jesus wants the battered “Rose”, but does He also not want to warn us not to go down the path that leads to battered roses? We need to warn people of the consequences of sin AND yet still be there for those who have been battered by sin.
