A landlording tip I recently received: Go several landlords back when checking references.

To ditch problematic tenants, current landlords may be falsely positive about them.

So get references from previous landlords with no vested interest.

Oh…that reminds me, Jenna…I forgot to say this has nothing to do with our current tenants.

Great advice! So how’s it going, being landlords? That’s something I have always been afraid to do……I would hate to evict anyone!!

It’s all fun and games until you step on a crack pipe in the front yard. Then you have to restructure the lease to look like a mall lease where there’s profit-sharing involved.

So you can support another Compassion Child in Rwanda, of course.

I agree to ask for references to the prior landlord of a tenant. The current landlord may be so anxious to see the problem tenant leave, that they will save anything to get them out the door. Here is my Landlord Presentation on this subject.

We are developing a Landlord-Tenant web site to address and resolve some of this livability issues thru training and resources.
