Recommend a beverage for the season. Here’s Molly’s and mine:
Thanks to a friend’s sleuthing, we had smoothies tonight using the same mix as Dunn Brothers.
With heavy whipping cream, of course.

wheat beer (weizen bier) from Germany is brilliant, also available in alcohol free should you feel so inclined. Beautiful taste on a summer’s eve…
I’m looking forward to using fresh mint from my garden for beverages and frozen slushes. There are lots of summery combos using mint…fun stuff like watermelon/mint sorbet.
That’s interesting because its dairy free for the ‘weight conscious’ but you add whipped cream. Over here it’s getting chilly. We are all drinking hot chocolate with marshmallows.
100% with you there Larry. Wheat beer is a wonderful gift of God to man.
Although, here in Australia, an alcohol free version would be illegal… ;)
cold-brewed coffee! it’s crazy easy to make a pitcher of to keep in the fridge, and it’s soooo much smoother and more delicious than acidic hot-brew. (and it never tastes burned.) it’s also incredibly caffeinated, so don’t forget to dilute!
sweeten with condensed milk or drink it on its own. yum. (it’s keeping me awake right now.)
Perrier with a whole lime squeezed into it. It’s very refreshing and hydrating at the end of a long, hot, Florida day.
Pimm’s & ginger beer. With or without slices of fruit in it.
I’ll second carissa. Also very easy to make if you have a french press pot.
gah how could i forget Pimms. Best thing to come from England after all the other cool stuff we came up with :P
stupid anon, that was mean to be larry posting not anon!
I’ll third carissa, but my approach is:
1. Brew a full pot (like 10 cups) of hot coffee
2. Pour into a pitcher with a can of sweetened condensed milk.
3. Stash it in the fridge overnight.
4. Serve over ice.
Seriously good eats.
3 Words: Bundaberg Ginger Beer

Or a mint julep.
Both are incredibly refreshing on a hot afternoon in Georgia.
Lava Flows…hands down it means that summer’s coming. And they are easy to make, and you can take or leave the rum.
gimlets: 3 shots of gin, 1 shot of Rose’s lime juice, shake with ice and serve in a martini glass or tumbler.
chocolate milk.
Does strawberry lemonade from Cheesecake Factory count? It’s delicious and they put sugar on the rim of the glass!

that’s pretty refreshing.
For all those who have read Walker Percy’s Love in the Ruins, you really should try a gin fizz.
Not easy to make. Good luck finding orange flower water. But a quest!
In fact … Jen if you’re reading this …
For those of you who have not read Love in the Ruins, you should
How about Nutmeg milkshakes?
Here’s the recipe.
So many fantastic options… two thoughts:
Shiner’s Hefeweizen (it’s a type of the above mentioned wheat beers) with a slice of lemon. Amazing drink for sitting on the front porch after a day of yard work or something like that.
For those more ambitious, a cocktail:
Elephant’s Daydream
2 oz. Amarula (it’s a creme liqueur like Bailey’s, but fruitier because it’s made from the fruit of the Marula tree that grows only in South Africa… you can find a bottle at most liquor stores for about $20)
4 oz. Milk
4 oz. Coke/Pepsi
1 scoop vanilla ice cream
Shake the milk and amarula and strain into a glass, then top the glass with pepsi, stir well, and add a scoop of ice cream. It’s *amazing*. (If you don’t have a shaker, you can stir all three ingredients together, but shaking is the preferred method to make it.)
jennapants–lime’d milk called ‘brazillian lemonade’? that’s a bit scary if you ask me.
here’s my favorite, as simple as it gets – no mixing involved:
Trader Joes Lemonade (in the carton)–I take mine with about a pound of crushed ice in the glass so it resides around 33 degrees. So good.
A mojito is a delicious summer potation.
Bubble tea! If you’re brave, you can make your
own.
Also, green tea with jasmine with just a bit of sugar added makes a great iced tea
(I just got back from Taiwan, and I’m missing the food already)
Simple but delicious is orange juice with cranberry juice. Served over ice. If you feel really crazy skip the orange juice and try ginger ale!
It’s almost laughably simple, but one of my favorite summer drinks is good ol’ sun tea. A gallon glass jar + water + 4 Lipton tea bags… combine and let sit in the sun for several hours until it’s as dark as you want it. Serve it cold, and the gentle steeping process leaves a great flavor that conventional iced tea just doesn’t match.
We always had it unsweet, but I suppose it could be sweetened for those so inclined.
Heavy whipping cream is great in hot tea, too, rather than half and half. I’ll never go back…
whatever drink you choose… chill your real glass glasses in the freezer for an even more fabulous cold drink.
A SUMMER’S EVE
2 Tbsp liquified honey
2 oz pure white grapefruit juice
2 ice cubes
topped with your favorite ginger ale
(To make this A WINTER’S EVE, drop the ice and add 2 oz VSOP brandy)
