Something to keep in mind when nothing you hoped for is working out

The best way to strip the allure and dreaminess from a lifelong dream is, very often, simply to have it come true.

Yes, absolutely. I experienced a dream coming true this year. It was so NOT what I thought it would be. It was a total let-down.

This is very true, but it also makes me more thankful and joyful that it is NOT true in the case of Jesus. He is actually all that we could imagine and more.

yes. and i think about this a lot. just this morning, actually, i was thinking about how when my lifelong dreams of being married and having children became reality, they just became normal life. they became chores and responsibilities. i’m not let down, though. and i don’t take them for granted. it’s just not what it is to those who are longing for it.

I’m also reminded by a quote and I can’t remember who said it but every time we think we want something, what we really want is God.

This reminds me of how men can be infatuated with women they don’t know very well. Once you get to know someone, their “allure and dreaminess” are replaced by a realistic understanding of who they are.

okay…way less deep than EE, but…

I had this deep, dreamy and alluring longing for Pineda Tacos today. And when, two hours later, my fantasy of carne asada tacos was fulfilled, it was AH-MAZE-ING.

and i thought of your post. but, it’s different.

After ignoring my RSS feeds, I finally got caught up and read this post. And I’m not sure I totally agree. Yes, sometimes it does work that way. But what about those times when you dream a God-sized dream. God puts His desires in your heart. And then fulfills them. What about Heaven? Heaven, or rather the God Who inhabits Heaven, is my “life-long dream.” Pretty sure the allure will never go away.
