Monroe’s weird and nasty marketing makes for a weird and nasty blog post about it. Sorry.

saving squirrels

Why would anyone purposefully associate their brand with helping a domiciliary scourge that should be curtailed as decisively as rats or termites?

  2. Jamsco says:

It could be worse. What if they did this with tarantulas?

Clever post Abraham. Great use of twenty two English words and includes links to two of my other favorite posts.

Squirrel fricassee is yummy with a side of brown rice.

I have an old version of the ROmbauer’s Joy of Cooking that explains how to skin and cook squirrel. It was fascinating and almost scary all at the same time.

i simply don’t understand why so many people hate squirrels and rabbits. is it a homeowner thing?

Having had squirrels eat through the gas pipe on the grill on my back deck, ruining the grill (and replacement hoses on this old grill were more than some new grills!), and then the same squirrels eat through a string of lights we’d wound round the deck so we could eat out there on late summer nights, I despise squirrels. And I don’t own the house – I rent it.

They also eat through trash bags if we set them out at the wrong time, and routinely destroy neighborhood carved pumpkins.

I totally understand your need to keep them in check. We have three or four that live around us and are always playing in our yard. They have not been destructive, they are fascinating to watch, and they are God’s creatures, so I leave them alone. If they were to get in my garage or eaves I wouldn’t hesitate to end their existence.

Now what we’ve had to do to the chipmunk population is a different story.

This comment isn’t really germane to the question is it?

  7. Karen says:

No one likes rats and they are a lot less destructive than squirrels.
A family of them moved into my mom’s attic destroying rafters, insulation, ceilings, books and other stored items. They chewed through electrical wiring causing a short which also caused damage.
Repairs were extensive and the books irreplaceable – my dad’s old library which she didn’t have the space for in her new home but couldn’t part with.

  8. I’m not going to lie, I moved up to Thompson, Manitoba way up past the 55th parallel about a year ago… and although there are Red Squirrels out in the woods, there are no squirrels at all in town… and I kind of miss them…

  9. Joanna says:

    Awww but they’re cute!

  10. Dealing with pesty squirrels on your property and telling others how to do likewise is one thing. However, your posts revealing your hatred of squirrels in general indicates a sin issue. I pray brother, that the Holy Spirit softens your heart, that you may love ALL His creatures.

  11. Brian says:

Sounds like you guys could use a longer squirrel season and a good firearm (.22, .410 shotgun, pellet gun, etc.)

  12. Myrddin says:

But Beatrix Potter … Squirrel Nutkin … you can’t kill Squirrel Nutkin!!!

@ Michael Kaster … here’s praying you’re adding an unspoken smiley after that.

  13. Annette says:

my 4 year old liked that commercial. though he did find the squirrels weird.

  14. Kp says:

I’m a renter…and I think we need to deal with the squirrels. I come out in the morning and see, literally, between 15-20 squirrels just by my garbage can.

While some squirrels are cute, the ones that hang out in our neighborhood are ratty, nappy, eat garbage and growl at you when you go to put something in the garbage.
