There’s positive side to things not turning out how we thought they would.

Life-long dreams can easily become letdowns, but on the flip side…
Our greatest fears, like our greatest hopes, often come to nothing.
(The Brothers K, 566)

Our greatest fears coming to nothing – also called Mercy. I thank God for it.
Still pluggin’ away at The Brothers K, eh?
Just finished yesterday.
I don’t think I’ve ever taken this long to read a book.
Not because I’m a fast reader. I just usually quit.

I just finished this book, too–and found that my “greatest fears” for the book were fulfilled…
I liked it so much at first and had great hopes for it, but found that it dissolved into ridiculosity in the last 200 or so pages.
So… I went and took a look at Amazon’s page for “The Brothers K”. I think I’ll add it to my (considerably lengthy) reading list. Here’s the thing – I’ve not read “The Brothers Karamazov”, though I hear it’s a classic. I’m interested in opinions about whether reading Dostoevsky’s book first (which is more daunting than Duncan’s) would be worth the effort.
Any thoughts?
I read Duncan without reading Dostoevsky and loved it.
