There are also good reasons to follow people who you don’t agree with at all. You get a different perspective that helps you think and consider.

In the same way assume nothing from one’s followers list either. I’ll allow anyone to follow me so long as they’re not obvious porn or selling something.

BTW, the “followers”/”following” terminology on Twitter bothers me. As in, “I have 84 followers”. Sounds cultic.

Good point.

I actually do read what the people I follow have to say and regularly glean interesting information or flat out learn breaking news from them.

Thus, I generally only follow someone if they tend to tweet stuff that interests me.

Following someone back just because they followed me–I quit that long ago. It’s pointless, for me.

But, as you note, others find value in that approach as well.

Thank you for making this observation. It’s easy to want to think some people are snobs for never following back and others are people pleasers for always following back. But, I know those things are not true. It’s insufficient evidence to make a right judgment.
