It’s frustrating to feel misunderstood in conversation, but if you and your interlocutor shared complete understanding, there’d be nothing to talk about.

What about talking together about our shared joy or talking together about our shared grief?
Not sure I follow. You can understand your interlocutor perfectly but still disagree with him and hope to persuade him to think about things differently, right?
Prompts me to wonder if all disagreements aren’t in some sense misunderstandings …
