The irrationality of fear: Why am I nervous to pick up hitchhikers but not to drive?
If picking up hitchhikers is irresponsible, why isn’t it irresponsible to drive at all?
Fatal accidents are far more common than axe-murders.

The positive side of communicational confusion: Without it there’d be no communication.
It’s frustrating to feel misunderstood in conversation, but if you and your interlocutor shared complete understanding, there’d be nothing to talk about.

Other than fear (and perhaps the occasional law) why avoid hitchhikers?
Men, let’s say you’re driving across country by yourself. Is there any compelling reason that isn’t fear-based to not pick up hitchhikers?
