Do you tip at Bed and Breakfasts?
Like this post?
I don’t like tipping at B&Bs because whoever I’d tip is probably the proprietor…who I already paid.
What do you think?

Only if they hire a maid or their teenage kid to clean the rooms. Good B&B owners want you to feel like family and wouldn’t accept your tip.
A tip? I can’t afford to go to a B&Bs except in England where they are cheaper that Hotels.
Tipping at a B & B? I’m British, so the thought had never occurred to me.
Tipping etiquette dictates that one does not tip proprietors, therefore you are correct.
Most Bed and Breakfasts would prefer that you not.
I’m America, and have stayed in several B&B’s, and the idea of tipping has never entered my mind. In my opinion, that’s part of the hospitality difference. Ususally we end up making fair acquatance with our hosts so that would be very strange indeed, like tipping your friend for doing something nice for you.
I agree, it’s like paying a bit more for something you’ve already paid for.
I worked at a Bed and Breakfast in college and received the tip that was left in the room when a guest left. We weren’t tipped often, but it was a very nice surprise when a guest did leave a tip.
My wife wondered the same thing about a flower delievery guy. I told her “no” because I had already paid a $6 delivery charge.
And I was recently in Oregon and wondered about tipping the gas pump attendant, since you can’t pump your own gas in OR. But I again came to a “no”, cause he’s already getting paid to do that exact job.
This tipping topic could be expanding to these and other areas I’m sure.
Good question and post.
I was JUST in this predicament over the weekend! I noticed the envelope that said “gratuity” and my husband and I didn’t have a clue as to what was customary. We googled and ended up leaving $5.
That’s what motivated my question…we saw envelopes for tips—one for the housekeeper and one for the innkeeper.
Now that is tacky.
