I’d say about 76% of arguments about what is “essential” could be avoided. Here’s how:

Don’t talk about something being essential without having an answer to the question “For what?”

Then make sure your audience knows, too.

    76%? That, coincidentally, is the percentage of statistics that are made up on the spot.
