Now you need a "22 examples of persnicketiness" post so we can apply it better to our lives. ;) As a designer, there's few things that discourage me more than when I show a design to someone for initial feedback and the first thing they say is something like, "You're missing a period here... Not sure I like the shade of blue... Your dashes should really be emdashes..." Not helpful and they've killed my enthusiasm. What's worse is I've been that guy before. And I'm sure I still am at times. On the other hand, there's a time & a place for persnicketiness in jobs (copywriters, fact checkers, and philosophers come to mind... wait, is philosophy really a job? oops, being persnickety).
