Bathos

Something nice about having to re-look up bathos with each encounter is that I can re-relish that there’s a word for that.

    I like that one of the synonyms is “insipidity” with is also a pretty fabulous word.

    I actually really liked the adjective form of this word: “bathetic” … I wonder if I can use this in a sentence today without sounding pretentious?

    When my son came to the door after playing with his friends in a dirt pile, he looked pretty bathetic, so I hosed him down before he came in.
