Bathos

Something nice about having to re-look up bathos with each encounter is that I can re-relish that there’s a word for that.

Wow, the definition I just looked up was WONDERFUL. How fantastic that there are words to encapsulate such specific things.
Yay! Educational!
thank you Alexander Pope.
No link??? You’re making me work pretty hard to educate myself.
I’m with you, though, I’ve looked it up before at least twice and now I’m going to have to do it again.
I like that one of the synonyms is “insipidity” with is also a pretty fabulous word.
I actually really liked the adjective form of this word: “bathetic” … I wonder if I can use this in a sentence today without sounding pretentious?
When my son came to the door after playing with his friends in a dirt pile, he looked pretty bathetic, so I hosed him down before he came in.
I am SO relieved to learn that I’m not the only one who has to look it up each time.
I didn’t even know it was an English word… I was going for my Greek Lexicon to remember it… thanks.
