I think he meant that older kids tend to act like it doesn't matter to them as much. Yet it does matter, which is why I think he wrote this post, to make us see that, and it worked.

And if they are older, perhaps they have suffered longer under the conditions that cause them to need sponsorship, so maybe they will need someone to love and pray for them even more.

I don't know if you meant that to be sarcastic or not, but your post struck a wrong chord in me. I have 3 sons of my own who still at 13, 16 and 18 desperately crave love and attention and ground rules even when the hormones are raging. They try to prove they are tough and tell me over and over that they don't need anyone, but that is really their insecurities saying, "don't let go, I'm afraid.' I know circumstances have a huge impact in making kids who they are and influencing the ways in which they react differently, but LOVE can do all things, at any age.

I was always bothered how when out in public, everyone clamors to the infants and little babies, but once they are 5 or so no one pays them any attention. It's like they are no longer important.

I would say it's extremely important to sponsor older kids. It's just like with adoption: a lot of people want the cute babies, or the toddlers they can still mold into their families. The older kids - the ones that need so much guidance - end up in foster care homes and institutions. Since when do we judge someone's worth on their level of cuteness?

how is something "lame but legit"? for me that gets a #.

anyway, i'm encouraged to write to my sponsor child more now, even though she's older.

I did it because older boys are often overlooked. I picked the first older boy I saw. Frankly, I think picking a kid based on cuteness is way lamer.
