How to add a link in a comment. (And a place to practice your new skill shame-free.)
Like this post?
To insert a link in your comment, type
<a href=“http://URL”> words you’re linking </a>
Feel free to experiment on this post.
Update: Tweaked for clarity…I hope. My inarticulate use of brackets was causing confusion, I think.
(especially for Jennapants and Kevin Ring)

OK, I’m going to go first to make sure I told the truth:
What I want for Christmas…just kidding.
Yep, it works. Now you try.
[I like my church]
[ok, this time?]
Dear Abraham,
Please use 22 more words to explain.
m.
I think it’ll work if you include http:// and don’t bracket the URL.
Try again! That’s what this comment thread is for.

ta da!
Guess I’ll just try to link to my blog .
Thanks for sharing. I’ve always wondered how to do that.
Trying this again.
OK, I’m a bad teacher. I’ll clarify the post.
I think I would enjoy this book.
Alright!
I wonder if this works:
My Amazon Wishlist but I will make it open into a new windows
Alas, target attributes do not work :(
You’re beyond me…I barely know how to do what I’m “teaching” with this post.
I wanted to reference Porky Pig’s Blue Christmas back when you asked about obscure Christmas music , but was afraid it might be too popular to count as obscure.
Plus, I was too busy enjoying all the links to good (in most cases, anyway) Christmas music.
So when are you going to ask your readers about their favorite Christmas traditions? I think something along that lines would be a lot of fun!
Huh. I tried to link to specific pages, but in both cases, my links went to the right site, but the wrong page.
Clearly I’m not as good at figuring this out as I hoped I would be.
Perhaps a bit few more words than 22 are needed to explain how to use the code correctly?
Here’s another try at the pig and your post .
(I tried taking out the quotation marks.)
Success!!!
So it looks like I learned something today. That’s a good start…
One of the sites I use frequently: Bible Gateway
If you’re using Internet Explorer 7 (or 8?), you can also add BibleGateway as a Search Provider for quick passage lookup from the built-in Search toolbar.
. What my camera has seen lately.
Hmmm, even now it doesn’t appear to be doing what it ought to do. http://www.flickr.com/photos/caughtnottaught/show/ is the address…
our bonfire
it worked, thanks! i’ve never done that before.
Hmmm. I just posted a link to http://www.flickr.com/photos/caughtnottaught/show/ , but it hasn’t appeared yet… Has my link gone straight into your SPAM bin? (Probably the safest place for it.)
How pecyooliyar. It’s appeared. Whoopdedoop.
Yep, I released it from Spam.
Swim, Tarka! Swim!
Let’s see if this [works]
Let’s try it again!
One more time
[What I started my day with...]
Last try before my shame is complete…
My blog.
Sweet. My problem before was leaving the quotation marks in, I think.

2nd attempt…

w3schools.com have good tutorials on this kind of thing!
The front fell off.
More Orison Quotes
Shameless, I know.
Well, rats. How did that extra quote get in there? The HTML I put in only has one.
that elton john one almost made me laugh out loud in a library!
Second try
More Orison Quotes
Nice. What’s up with that?
Abraham, I take umbrage (umbrage, I tell you) at wordpress here. I did a ‘View Source’ on that last attempt of mine and it definately is not what I put in. It took out some of the html.
Yeah, I was noticing some weirdness, too.
I don’t know what causes it.
It’s working for me, but then not for others who seem to be doing the same thing.
Hmmm.
this is so cute!
Let’s see how this works….
I’m hoping I’ll get this for Christmas somehow
Don’t click this.
My life in the country.
Another try.
My life in the country.
I give up.
Best site on the web.
Did it work?
Apparently not. Hmmm. Trying again.
My radio station.
Nope. It’s putting some weird characters in there.
Hmmm. What do you mean by “don’t bracket the URL”?
href=“http://www.scriptoriumdaily.com/2009/12/10/the-women-of-advent-and-christmas-iv-holy-anne-grandmother-of-god/” words you’re linking
Apparently not that.
A really awesome guitarist.
Sweet
Starting over.
Welcome to the internet.
Hooray! Take the quotation marks out. That did it for me.
Yes, I noticed that, too. Except you’re supposed to put the quotation mark in. WordPress adds one.
A cool story from one of my pastors
Thank you fellow commenters for validating my previous difficulty explaining this in the comment field.
And thank you Abraham for only subtly drawing attention to my ineptitude rather than lambasting me.

i feel like were all in swim class taking turns going off the diving board.
here i go…
what the heck?
don’t worry no one laughed when fell off the diving board
shoot. i meant to say:
don’t worry no one laughed when you fell off the diving board
Sorry, Melissa.
Other people are having that problem, too.
I have no idea why WP seems to be adding an extra quotation mark to some people’s html.
CUSS!
I’m going back old school bc it works.

trying again. very sheepishly. saw plenty of mistakes.
hey, nice way to increase your traffic. i’ll have to come back to this post EVERY time i want to link to a word or phrase. brilliant. i’ve googled to try to figure this out, but to no avail.
oh, and THANKS, kevin, for your help yesterday. i wanted to try it out, but i was too nervous. i know. i’m lame.
It was my pleasure. Don’t worry about not trying it. I mean, I’m sure that you understood perfectly how to do it after reading my 17 comments.
Homeschooling Hubris
An article I wrote on the dangers of homeschooling!
Next we can move onto bigger and better things in HTML.
If that doesn’t turn out right I‘ll look really dumb.
i was hoping other tags worked
bold
italic

aww tables and pictures do not work
Click HERE or the world will end, and it will be all your fault.
I mean HERE.
Ah, forget it already. Just go here: somalife.tumblr.com
Incidentally, I had just assumed you didn’t allow real HTML in your comments. Many people don’t (because of the resulting spam).
I’ll try it…just don’t read my blog
my blog
how many tries do we get???
my blog
one more?
if 4 doesn’t work I’m giving up
Thanks for the tutorial!
These are the silliest comments I’ve seen on a post in quite some time.
well i’ll be… it worked.
Jesus Tree

Looking forward to January and seeing this post as one of the top 22 most popular posts from December.
