…O stand, stand at the window
As the tears scald and start;
You shall love your crooked neighbour
With your crooked heart.…

    Happy Birthday, Abraham. You’re an intersting young man and I enjoy reading your blog. Looking at pictures on your mom’s blog, Orison is a chip off the ol’ block. Have a fun day.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY ABRAHAM. Saw it on your dad’s facebook. Great post too. Truly though, getting sick of the fact that lots of great writing is by exceptionally messed up people. I know we are all sinful, but really, it’s tiresome.

    • ChicagoGal says:

      God’s answer to our discouragement about the sinfulness of others is the same as what’s contained in Auden’s lines: “LOVE your crooked neighbor / with your crooked heart”. This is God’s sentiment. He invented it, and I think this is evidence that he’s put it on the hearts and minds of his whole creation.

      If you’re feeling like it’s tiresome (and the sinfulness of myself and others makes me feel that way sometimes too), remember that because of Jesus our hearts aren’t crooked anymore. They have been purified. We can love everyone, constantly and purely!

      Happy Birthday, Abraham!

    Now this is a great poem and it packs a powerful punch! Happy Birthday. Saw those pics your mom posted. That little Orison looks like you chewed him up and spit him out. You will find that lots of wisdom comes in the 30′s.

    Thank you for sharing the poem and happy birthday, Abraham.

    Only God knows how your 30′s will be. My very limited experience at 33, however, is that they are far better than my 20′s. May God richly bless yours & Molly’s 30′s beyond anything you could’ve asked Him for or imagined.

    Thanks. Two of my friends broke up today. I now regret not encouraging them (as I felt I should have a few months ago) to seek relationship mentoring/counseling. The bittersweetness of this poem fits perfectly.

    Bergamot, to be precise.

    Many happy returns.

    Hi. i’ve read your blog about 5 different times, and it still catches my attention the fact that the twentytwo word concept is kept through almost everything posted, even when it was not written by you. how is that possible? please explain!
