Why bloggers link to Amazon so much…other than that Amazon is cheap and has everything.

Whenever I link to Amazon, then you click and buy something, I make money.
This is true for almost every serious blogger.

Huh…I had no idea.
Thank you, thank you for linking to the UFO detector and fresh whole rabbit…. I knew there were just a couple more things out there that would complete my Christmas shopping. :)
Entirely appropriate! Hard work deserves a reward, and writing 22 words is infinitely harder than 400.
By the way, I’m flying through your fine city while returning home with my new daughter from Ethiopia on New Year’s Day. Try to keep the runways free of snow, will ya? :)
It’s comments like these that keep me coming back here. Sarcastic poke at the blogger served with a little glimpse of awesomeness! Thank you for loving and expressing that love through adoption. Have a great trip and many blessing to you and your family.
Actually I was dead serious, but I’m glad you found it funny. I write many 400, 600 or 900 word blog posts. Trying to be that concise and convey the depth of meaning that many of these posts do would take me a LOT of time. (I try on Twitter.) :)
Infinitely harder?! Abraham, you must be even more amazing than I thought.
Well call me “almost” and pitch me like a horseshoe!
I don’t make any money or even get any free stuff for linking to Amazon or any place else for that matter. I guess that means I’m not a serious blogger or that I’m the sucker who whitewashes Tom Sawyer’s fence for free or at cost to myself! :-)
I know there are a few serious bloggers out there that don’t have an Amazon Associates account.
But is that because you don’t care or because you haven’t taken the time to set one up?
You should…It’ll probably pay for a nice date once a month.
Does it allow for filtering of what gets showed?
Yes and no. You can either link to a list you create or to individual items you select.
Especially with all of the books and CDs Thabati links too!
Um…you’re welcome?
I didn’t have enough words to say thanks. :)
how about a 15% payback to Lee? ;)
So can I ask how well that’s working out for you? Do you make spare change or pretty much?
Did you know you make 10% on kindle purchases?
My personal rule is that I never link to something (on my blog or on Twitter) that I don’t own and enjoy myself. It bugs me when people I follow / read (that I can’t stop following or reading because they’re my friends and would be hurt) link to stuff they have no personal interest in and don’t really like, but are hoping that someone will so that they can make a buck.
It feels dirty to me.
The same is true for the bloggers who link to Westminster’s online bookstore.
You’re dead on.
And I laughed at the links. But don’t tell your wife you made the money from the date off of commissions from selling…rat dissection guides.
wha? I had no idea! I want to earn money too!! Maybe I should start blogging?
Blogging: Where You Earn $.02 An Hour From Amazon!
I assumed most people knew that.
BTW, the reason I don’t buy any of the stuff you hock is because I’m poor. Though I did get the new Lyle Lovett album for my wife through one of your links… and in the grand scheme of things I am not really that poor… let’s just say I’m discretionary-income challenged.
Is this your way of easing us into more ads on the blog? Is Adsense in your future?
Great post. I love how you’re being honest, and also spreading the word about such programs being available for bloggers. I took the opportunity to post about this today on my blog as well. I linked back to your post too.
Blessings in Christ,
Bob
It looks like I’m not as serious a blogger as I thought. I’ll have to try this when I find time.
Thanks.
I link to amazon when I mention a book, so readers can learn about the book. How can this make me money?
Can we do this on WP?
It’s because I don’t want to live in a world without Christian bookstores.
Because Amazon is cheap and has everyrthing!!! Wait, you said that already! =D
You know Book Depository has an affiliate program – and free postage (so it’s often cheaper than Amazon)…
I’m a serious blogger but haven’t actually managed to sell anything via my links to Amazon or Book Depository… I think there’s more to it than “seriousness”.
