It seems I missed Squirrel Appreciation Day.

Nevertheless, here’s my…um…appreciation:

Man I thought there must’ve been a holiday about those little tree rats. I’ve celebrate several weekends this year in the woods by squirrel hunting. Man they make a good stew which I dearly appreciate!

In honor of this post, and the squirrels that will inevitably commence scurrying across our tin roof in a few months, I think I’ll order one of these today:

I guess my husband and I celebrated by getting rid of 2 of them in our attic this past week. We had been trying for 2 weeks to catch these little guys and we finally got them.

I’m reminded of the squirrel scene from the new “Charllie and the Chocolate Factory”. Ya know the one? Horrific and Hilarious!

    This happened years ago:
After a long day at work, my boss and his wife, a stay at home mom, had just gone to bed in their Mpls. home. After a few minutes of silence, his wife says, quietly and a bit hesitantly, “I say a blue squirrel today.” My boss started laughing uncontrolably. He knew the guy that was trapping, spray painting, and then releasing squirrels in the area, but didn’t share that info with his wife – he just kept laughing, and tried to convince her blue squirrels are not that unusual. I think they’re still happily married…

If you haven’t listened to TAL “Squirrel Cop” you should. It’s well worth the 12 minutes.

I thought I was the only one to have a photo holding the ‘have a heart’ trap with a dead squirrel that I thoroughly enjoyed drowning in the creek.

I had a very happy heart ridding my attic of one of the many viscous nut hiding – wall destroying – varmits. Only mine was one of the red variety. We also holed up in the dining room and shot them from the window.
