Buzkashi. Does it count if I had to google for the name? I already knew it was the Afghan national sport and played with a calf or goat as the “ball”.
i see someone has beaten me to the answer. does it count that i did NOT have to google for the name? buzkashi.
it’s played by all sorts of people, but especially the afghans.
more info can be found here: http://centralasia.imb.org/encounter/afghanistanNavrouz.html
Buzkashi. Strangely enough, I just saw an article about it last night while searching for weird things. This qualifies.
A friend who lives in that part of the world sent me a shirt that says “Football is for wimps. Real men play Buzkashi.” It gets a lot of questions in Alabama!
Alabama football = not wimpy. Roll Tide!
I’ve read about this before but forgot the name. Name or not, all I have to say is…eeeeugh.
Isn’t this a scene in Rambo III?
My thoughts exactly. It certainly is played in Rambo III.
Eww. Ick. (At least that’s the name I give it.)
Not gonna lie…I just held my mouse over the picture for the file name. Alas, “buzhashi-game” popped up.
I have always dreamed of a suburban buzkashi league played on a soccer field with a plush animal toy as the goat and the riders on bicycles. I have asked around, but have found no takers.
Those mountains in the background are beautiful!
Snooker.
This was described in the novel “The Venetian Betrayal.” I was a pretty good read.

I would watch this over curling or ice skating.
Isn’t that just just an ‘unevolved’ version of soccer? After all the ball was originally a sewn up, pigs bladder or something…so I’ve been told
You’re all pretty close – but not quite close enough!
