Impossible but awesome music: Imagining the ideal cover versions of songs
If you could hear any band play any song, what combination would you choose?
For instance, I think it would be pretty funny to hear “Song of the Volga Boatmen” done by the Sex Pistols or Elliot Smith.
Or, more seriously, Townes Van Zandt singing “Fisherman’s Blues.”

I’d pay anything to hear the Ramones do “Pants on the Ground!”
johnny cash playing “monkey gone to heaven”by the pixies would be pretty awesome
I would love to hear Metallica cover “Behind Blue Eyes” by the Who. (Think Unforgiven II)
I highly recommend Iron Horse to anyone who wants to hear great bluegrass versions of Metallica, Zepplin, or even Modest Mouse:

Pearl Jam covering Van Morrison’s, “Wavelength.” Can’t get the tune of that song out of my head.
The cast of Glee singing any song from the Gaither Vocal Band.
Nice.
That would be fantastic.
No question–Five Iron Frenzy (or even Brave Saint Saturn) doing Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing.”
Nice!
Morrissey covering “Chopped In Half” by Obituary (alluding to last weeks Death Metal post ;-))
Or Derek Webb covering a song off of Scott Stapp’s solo project (not familiar with the Stapp discography but at any rate, it’d be hilarious.)
I wanna hear someone like Beck or Ben Folds cover Amy Winehouse’s “You Know I’m No Good”.
I don’t know… it’s hard to say. Nightwish covering the Pirates of the Carribean theme could be pretty cool.
Slipknot – Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini
(or did they already do that one?)
Actually, let me change my Derek Webb answer to him covering “Rehab” by Amy Winehouse with a few changes…
“They tried to get me not to say cuss words, I said ‘no, no, no!’”
Fat Bottomed Girls by Guzzy and Zake http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgbSJcUYx4A
No, in reality… I’d love to hear Radiohead do “Kashmir.”
Mumford and Sons covering One Day, Hope CC arrangement.
awesome!
Mogwai playing the Vineyard catalog.
nice.
Don’t know that it could get much better than this.

I heard that Switchfoot has occasionally been known to cover Rihanna’s song, Umbrella. That’s certainly one I’d like to hear in full.
Johnny Cash covering U2′s “One”.
Oh wait…

Johnny worked his magic on this one too:

NIN Hurt
Fold Zandura covering U2′s Yahwey.
In their previous band, Mortal, they covered One Tree Hill. As industrial-metal.
Morphine covering Steely Dan’s “Do It Again” or
Shatner covering Berlin’s “The Metro”
Also nods to the greatest mash-up act ever:

I’d like to have a Jack White (and any of his musical associations) hymn album, certainly including “Amazing Grace,” “Praise to the Lord the Almighty,” and “O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus.”
Johnny Cash covering Dave Matthew’s “Gravedigger.” Really, every time I hear that song I think DM stole it from a hidden JC book…
