Kenny G gets ripped apart
As long as I’m defending everyone’s right to have strong opinions against particular music and musicians, here’s Pat Metheny’s major dressing-down of Kenny G.
My favorite line:
Kenny G plays the dumbest music on the planet…. (ADDENDUM: The only thing wrong with the statement that I made was that I did not include the rest of the known universe.)
Wow.

I specifically like that this is tagged as “constructive criticism.” I guess it could be useful for constructing walls to protect oneself from such criticism again.
Yes, I find that I use that tag ironically more often than not.
Metheny is right… Kenny G = terrible musician.
As a jazz musician myself this makes me tremble in my boots. I hope Pat never comes to any of my shows!
In the interest of being entitled to my own musical opinions, I listened to Kenny G’s rendition of “What a Wonderful World.”
I did not think it was terrible.
As with most forms of art, something doesn’t have to be technically good to be appreciated. People find Kenny G appealing to the ear and Thomas Kincade appealing to the eye. Maybe it’s that “base impulse” Pat mentioned.
Yes, one of those base impulses that is actually quite lovely to have, I’d say.
Just sayin’…

Who is Pat Metheny?
The only people who like Kenny G are those who know nothing about music.
Check out the “real” Kenny G sometime… you’ll see:

I think what gets people riled up is the fact that Kenny G’s genre has the word “jazz” in it. It’s not jazz, more like “instrumental pop”(coined by Wynton Marsalis.)
“There is a season for everything under the heavens”.
Scripture backs up the premise that there is a season for Kenny G music.
Flutes and harps are but a few musical instruments in the Bible, and a choice for Kenny G is one of those. Even King David danced to the flute. Wind instruments are cool to the max!
So, if in the course of listening to the eloquent lift to the senses of low to high melody, and the roller coaster ride back in our emotions, someone saw the musical note of Jesus Christ and drew closer to Him through an expression of musical talent in Kenny G…
lambasting music others like and you do not seems a tad unChristian.
I do not like Joan Jett music, but if she played at Mars Hill for Mark Driscoll, a buncha “former” pagans would likely ensue.
Let him who has ears to hear, hear!
