Video of England’s disallowed goal

Video updated…

(Thanks, Daniel)

Update:

FIFA removed the original video I posted. I’ll withhold my opinion of that move and offer this snarky image instead…

They said it was a yard then – by the end of the match it was a couple of yards and by the Argentina-Mexico match, Shearer claimed it was a mile over the line.

Possibly cost England the match (given the Germans’ other goals were because we were so over stretched getting the equaliser) – OK, we didn’t deserve to win – but we could have (especially if the manager made better decisions).

The refereeing has been shoddy this past week, week and a half.

If they would just place in some form of technology into this sport then it might show relevance in countries that are flaming mad at the spotty officiating. There is a reason why the NFL has up to 10 officials on the field during games. There are too many angles and too big a field.

The problem with this solution is it would change the whole flow of the game to stop it to watch replays. There are some great chances made off these types of moves.
I’d like to see an added ref behind each goal as extra eyes.
Believe me though, if we didn’t have cameras, most of us would have missed it as well.

Having never really watched futbol, but being an athlete growing up, I have been blown away by how subjective the officiating is. From penalties for “flopping” to the fact that no one really knows when the game will end, there is no concrete aspect to the game, and that bugs me. I’m with John, add some officials, give instant replay a shot, and make the field clock the real clock. How hard is that?

    • André says:

I agree that the officiating is excessively subjective, but to say “that no one really knows when the game will end, there is no concrete aspect to the game” is quite a stretch. When the end of each half approaches, the ref. has to inform how much additional time will be played. But I absolutely agree that they should add some officials, and instant replay.

I just found this on a friend’s Facebook wall. I think it’s already started going viral, but it’s worth sharing…

Why did the chicken cross the road? According to FIFA it didn’t.

Ah, but what about ’66, eh?
