The Village People and YMCA

The announcement that the YMCA is officially reducing its name to what everyone calls it anyway–the Y–left one huge question unanswered.

What about the song?!?!

Fortunately Victor Willis, lead singer of the Village People, spoke out to put our minds at ease.

Willis says the change won’t affect the song — or the dance that goes along with it

What a relief! Can you imagine how awkward it would be to sing

It’s fun to stay at the Y mm mm mm.
It’s fun to stay at the Y mm mm mm.

It’s definitely not a prosodic improvement and what would we do with our hands for those last 3 notes?
