How black people use Twitter

If you pay any attention to trending topics on Twitter, you’ve probably noticed that a surprising number of the most popular hashtags seem to be almost exclusively used by African-Americans.

Over at Slate, Farhad Manjoo offers an analysis as to why this might be and what it might mean.

I’ve been curious about this phenomenon from time to time, so I’m interested to see some folks with more scholarly aptitude and cultural awareness than I have looking into it and sharing their best guesses with the rest of us.
