When I worked at HP we would get surveys every year. One question asked if we understood the company “vision”. Most people replied that they didn’t understand it, so a few months later we all had to spend two days sitting through an “understanding the company vision” seminar.

We learned our lesson for the next year’s survey.

Was the lesson, “Sign someone else’s name to the survey so only they have to go to the seminar”?

A couple of years ago, Raytheon’s employee survey stated that most people did not feel fully respected. So everybody in the company got a mandatory training course of respect.

Surprisingly, it was actually halfway decent, and people did tend to become a little friendlier.

My church participated in a survey recently. I realized that they would know exactly who the 30 year old, (then) single, white male who has been attending for 25 years and is on staff might be. My dad has the philosophy that if he can sign an anonymous survey, he will. There’s really no such thing as anonymity.

I used to work for a professional company who did surveys like this for large corporations. It was always hilarious to read the responses because people would FREAK OUT that “I know my boss is going to see this,” and I’d be sitting at my desk thinking “Buddy, I’m the only one seeing this and we have no way to track you. Your company just wants to take the pulse of what is going on within.”

LOTS of paranoia. Kind of sad.

But I get a kick out of the cartoon anyway despite having been in the business and having kept things highly confidential.
