If your neighborhood store shuts down, will you miss it?

Update: Thanks to Nicole and Jared for pointing me to this bit from the Onion…

No, that’s why I have Redbox. BB was too expensive, anyway. Why fork over $5 for a movie when I can get it for $1 through RB or even cheaper via Netflix? If I had Netflix, that is. ;)

    • John Mahan says:

In my experience Netflix is not cheaper than Redbox.

      • The cost of Red Box depends how often you use it, if you are diligent to return them on time and how far away a Red Box is from you. On all three counts Netflix is cheaper for me.

        • talley says:

i agree with netflix being cheaper. i’d have to drive about 10 miles roundtrip to the nearest redbox, and they never have the movies i want. netflix supplies my bollywood needs without me having to leave my house! i love their watch instantly feature.

Mine has already closed down. We will not miss it because we have Netflix.

Really amazing what Netflix has done. Red Box is next if they don’t figure out a way to embrace the internet. Such a shame that a company like Blockbuster couldn’t accept the change around them and hunkered down in brick. Their online presence was too little too late.

No, I won’t miss it by the way.

Ours has shut down, don’t miss it a bit, Netflix rules.

That happened a least a year ago here. And no, we didn’t miss it. We just switched to Netflix. Now we just watch everything online with our laptop linked to our TV.

Wonder how long till our ailments are diagnosed over the internet…how sad.

    Chad says:

It’s sad to me because we have once again automated our lives in such a way to further isolate us from contact with each other. With that being said, I love Netflix.

    Shannon Archer says:

I’m not sure why, but it bums me out that they went bankrupt…I think it probably is like Chad says…one more way that we don’t connect with others.

    not in the least

    Jacob Young says:

Nope. We do Netflix. I haven’t done Blockbuster in…. 10+ years?

    Brannon says:

    not for a moment.

    Sarah Salazar says:

I haven’t been to Blockbuster in years. Way overpriced. We fill our addiction with a Netflix subscription and Redbox supplements. When we want to “connect” with others, we invite people over to watch with us (more accurately, we invite ourselves over to other people’s homes since our place is not much bigger than a sardine can).

    Chris says:

Didn’t they used to rent VHS and Beta tapes?

    Nicole says:

We don’t have Netflix or Red Box (we usually just buy the DVDs when we like the movie enough), but no, we won’t miss it. The Family Video down the street was way cheaper anyway. We did go in and buy up a bunch of their videos for cheap when they were closing the store, though. :)

Blockbuster was great until about a week after it opened.
