Owner of a hot pepper farm eats hottest pepper in the world

Perhaps you remember the video of the teenager eating a ghost pepper.

When Jamie Kocher, CEO of the Waimea Bay Chili Pepper Company, takes a bite of one of these peppers, the result is not quite as schadenfreude-inducingly intense as when we watched that poor kid.

Still, it’s pretty crazy to see the effect this little vegetable has on someone who is pretty much a professional pepper-eater.

Somethings just shouldn’t be eaten. I’m reminded of that proverbial wisdom from Mama Gump…Stupid is as stupid does.

The problem is, as someone who likes spicy, I watch this and think, “Just how hot is it?” I know, there is something wrong with me when I have seen people so destroyed by this pepper that I even think of trying one, but there is a part of me that thinks of this as a challenge. Mental note, “Must resist.”

my first thought – what an idiot – he knows it’s hot what did he expect?

My brother-in-law, a pepper freak, has some ghost pepper sauce. He’ll put two or three drops in a bowl of chili. Since I had watched the previous video with the teenager, of course I had to try some. I put one drop on a bite of grilled cheese sandwich.

I started sweating immediately, well before I could feel the heat in my mouth and throat. With the sauce, the burning lasted for maybe 10 minutes. But it’s a little hard to explain how good I felt after eating it. Definitely an anti-depressant.

But I don’t think I’d ever actually eat one by itself. A man’s got to know his limitations.

Was it Dave’s Reserve Jolokia Sauce? Comes in a wooden box wrapped in Caution tape? My husband loves that stuff. Had a batch of black beans with five big drops in it and happily scarfed it down. His ears turned a pretty shade of red!

My wife asks why you never see any women do this sort of stupid stuff?

My husband and I went to the Snowmass Chili & Brew fest this past week in CO. We both had the ghost pepper chili and it was wonderful!!!!!! Very very very hot – it was a 24 hr experience – but it was YUMMY!
