Also, can someone tell me what was up with pro baseball between 1901 and 1961? Why are no teams that started in that era still around?

I don’t think there were any teams started in that era. That’s why since 1961 is called the expansion era.
That’s right, there were just 8 teams in each league all through the first half of the century, pretty much all in the northeast (and St. Louis), and then a few teams moved cities in the 50′s, and the leagues started expanding in the 60′s.
