I guess when I wish someone “Happy New Year”, I’m thinking more along the lines of, “Be happy we made it into the new year alive! We’ve crossed over into the next year.” than “Be happy the whole year through.”
Yeah, after a few weeks or months it’s not really a new year anymore anyway. So it’s more of a wish for the entry. I think of it like, did you have a good day yesterday? Or did a bunch of stuff go wrong?
There is a time for everything , and a season for every activity under heaven : … a time to weep and a time to laugh , a time to mourn and a time to dance .

EXACTLY how I feel about New Year’s. Always just hoping it will be better than the last year, but certainly not 365 of happy.
