Mug brownies usually turn out pretty yummy!

  2. kaci says:

I am so excited to make these as soon as no junk food january is up.

  3. Kim says:

My girls have been making this for years! One of the first things they learned to “cook” alone. This is exactly the recipe we use…except they’ve taken it up a notch with additions like chocolate chips or mint chips or cut Reese cups, etc. Great for after school on a cold day with a little chocolate syrup on hand.

  4. Molly says:

That looks nasty. But you know I’ll probably try it if it’s chocolate.

“What are you doing so much chocolates?”

  5. Denita says:

I tried this before, and it’s OK but needs to be gooier. Gooeyer. Gooeyerrerr. Um, more gooey.

  6. Lee Shelton says:

I’ve tried it too. Pretty bland and chewy. And the inside of the microwave gets really, really wet.

  7. Holly says:

I’m just marveling at that clean microwave!

  8. Laura says:

Abraham, you’re the blogger. Aren’t you supposed to try it and let us know how it goes? :)

  9. Travis says:

Looks more like cake than brownies to me. Needs to be denser, gooier, fudgier. Does that make me a brownie snob?

  10. Gary says:

Dare I ask, how long before some kid comes up with the 4 minute 20 second brownie?

  11. Chelsea Bass says:

This looks gross. I don’t know what’s coming out of that cup, but it is NOT a brownie. Sorry.

  12. Tanya says:

I think looking at the photos and ingredients just gave me a heart attack. I’d try it just to watch the dough rise. And then I’ll have someone eat it for me.

  13. Biodork says:

Oh my gosh, that looks like tons of fun! I’m trying it TONIGHT.

  14. Leslie says:

Just tried it. It’s like a chocolate sponge, but a scoop of ice cream can remedy that!

  15. Denise says:

You need some real chocolate in there to make it less floury and more gooey. This is an area university students are experienced in.

  16. Coleslaw says:

For the amount of cleanup involved (cake flour expands on clean kitchen counters when the target is coffee mug sized), it’s avery chewy brownie. Cute idea, but brownie mixes are better (and at the end of it all, not THAT much longer).

  17. Roger Messner says:

    trying w bacon…

  18. John Fromel says:

Mom and kids made a couple mugs ‘o 3min brownie this afternoon and convinced me that I should should make a mug myself. I did and it’s no brownie. At best it’s 3 minute nuked weak chocolate cake. That is what you should change the name of the post to. “Weak Cup of Nuked Chocolate Cake in 3 Minutes”.

I feel that I wasted some perfectly good chocolate in the making, but not so much that I am bitter. The kids had fun watching it “GROW”, so not an entire loss, just not a candidate for a repeat.

  19. Devin Mork says:

I used regular flour instead of cake flour – a mistake. It was rubbery at the bottom, kind of gross.

  20. I’ve made this with my children (http://www.justhisbest.com/2009/08/mug-cake.html) and they loved it. Put it with some vanilla ice cream and you can’t go wrong!

  21. xSPYXEx says:

I did this last night (with a slightly different recipe), and it actually is FUCKING AMAZING. No lie, it’s awesome. Just make sure that you have a rag/sponge to clean up afterwards…

  22. zozo says:

get a big big mug for zero mess, after it cools a little, tap the sides of the cup upside down and it drops out nicely. Would have been great with some choc chips, or some chocolate spread melted on top for a bit of sauce or both! :)
