What happens if a water main breaks by your car in sub-zero temperatures?

This:

(via Jalopnik)

Of course, the question is what on earth to do about this. Any ideas?

Update: I guess it makes sense that this doozy made the news…

Been there done that. (At least that is the way my memory exaggerates it) We had an amazing ice storm in 1996.

I don’t remember how I opened the doors. I think I found something to pry with.

I managed to chip away a 2 foot wide patch off the windshield with a socket wrench, then I drove it home. (I only had 2 turns on my route of 2 or 3 miles.

A couple of winters ago, we had a water main break/sinkhole that happened UNDERNEATH our ministry leader’s car… while he was in it, driving. The car went nose down into the watery hole, but and he was able to climb out the back window into the bed of a nearby staff member’s pickup. It was one of those situations where you weren’t quite sure if it was sad or really, really funny.

The city bought him a new car though, so that was cool.

  3. It’s stuff like this that makes the rest of us wonder why you people live up there.

  4. I’m surprised the suspension can take the added weight of that much ice.
