A world map that inverts land and sea
The folks at Vlad Studio imagined what the world would look like if the oceans were land and vice versa.
Here’s what they came up with…
I just keep thinking how much more war there would be if the world looked like this…
* * * * *

I’d conquer the islands in the North American ocean and name them the ‘Great Islands’ because of how great they are.
Minnesota: The Land of 10,000 Islands
Makes me think of Middle Earth.
And think of the manpower and engineering wherewithal that went into the Panama Landbridge.
The Panama Bridge: one of the great wonders of the world…
‘Mediterranean Kingdom’ doesnt quite make sense. Shouldn’t it be ‘Medimarenean’? (probably rubbish Latin)
It’s very hard to see the sea as the land – the shapes are so familiar.
The weather patterns would be a nightmare.
This would not work for me.
the proportions are way out of wack, it would be even more amazing (than it already is) if they can fix it proportionally.
I wonder, if the world were like this, whether we would still draw our maps with North as “up” and South as “down.” And how it would affect population distribution…it appears there would be much more climatologically habitable land in the Southern Hemisphere.
yeah, what do they have against the pacific landmass… it’s huge and barely shows up on the map
whats funny is i was just going to say what the comment under the photo said, then i noticed it had been said already. we would be a much more warlike people if we didnt have oceans separating us. In fact, the world wars would have probably decided one global ruling power. Which honestly wouldnt be THAT bad a thing. and religion? kiss it goodbye. there wouldnt have been any outside of one that revolved around war. Again, not such a bad thing. Wars lead to advances in science, medicine, technology, communication and more. Its just that whole mass die off/extermination of another population thing that gets the touchy feely types all riled up.
just think, there might actually be enough land to grow the food required for the current world population, let alone the population of the future
of course, if the world was “designed” for mankind, then it’d look more like this than have more than 2/3 of the planet being water
There is enough land to grow the food we need. The problems are transporting it and wasting it (one of the top things in the garbage in US is food).
If we avail ourselves of modern agricultural technology, current agricultural land worldwide could yield enough to feed 15-20 billion people or more, but current demographic projections expect the earth’s population to level off somewhere between 10 and 12 billion.
This does assume, however, that luxury “organic” practices are kept to a minimum, since they yield much, much less, per acre.
By far, the biggest problem when it comes to food shortages is transportation and inefficiency.
I wonder how something like this would affect the climate as the new so called oceans look more like giant lakes to me, save for the Antarctic one… Would there even be an Arctic climate? Lots of land for vegetation but who’s to way it would not be giant desert wastelands. It would be interesting to see the results of this on some sort of simulator.
