The USPS’s response to mistakenly featuring a Lady Liberty replica on a stamp
The United States Postal Service recently released a stamp featuring the Statue of Liberty.

Only problem is, that’s not a picture of the Statue of Liberty. It’s a replica from Las Vegas.

It’s an easy enough mistake to make, I suppose…

…but the USPS spokesperson’s response to this discovery is pretty weird:
We still love the stamp design and would have selected this photograph anyway.
Wait. What?
I’m picturing an Elvis stamp where they use an impersonator so they can get just the shot they want.

OK, show of hands. Anyone surprised?
Ah, they should have just owned it. Americana!
I WORK for USPS. I am NOT surprised. We don’t think smart about a LOT of what we do…
I guess we can tell from the extra seams on the body, the difference in right elbow area, the wrinkles and lay of the robe … It certainly requires more than a glance to see the difference, but yes, they should make sure they source the right photograph.
