Are you kidding me? From what? Zombie apocalypse? Don’t you see any similarity between muslims learning their children to use AK-47s and Americans which learn their children that killing people for their own safety is ok?
Dude, its a little girl having fun shooting nobody shoots full auto on a regular basis this was probably at the knob creek machine gun shoot which happens once a year. Calm down, its part of american tradition, the difference between this and terrorists is they do it with the intention on killing Americans innocent or not, I doubt this girl was being trained for self defense with a machine gun, but even if she was which is highly unlikely because the machine gun pictured cost about 8,000$USD but even if she was it would be only if someone was trying to take her life and was guilty of it, not just going around killing innocent people with an AK47. All body armor can take multiple hits of this gun, not with an AK47 though this gun is the weakest pistol round besides rimfire.
The Event she was at was the Saddle Butte Machine Gun shoot in Albany Oregon, not Knob Creek(which happens twice a year). And an FYI the gun would cost you @ $19 – 25k USD, if you could find a transferable one.
Most people that shoot would prefer peace, being able to defend yourself doesn’t make you a violent person. Also many people that shoot have no intentions of ever shooting anything living they just enjoy the sport. Just because you are afraid of the it doesn’t mean its abuse.
That is NOT a machine gun. It is a semi-auto. Although I don’t agree with it, it is NOT child abuse. We live in a free country – which means we are free to disagree with how others see fit to bring up their children.
Machine gun = a rifle style gun with a heavy barrel designed to *continuously* lay down fire. Fires ‘rifle’ rounds (or bigger, depending on the system.) (i.e. M249B, M240, etc)
Assault rifle = a light infantry ‘rifle’ that usually has a ‘full-auto’ mode, but is typically fired in ‘single shot’ mode. (i.e. M-16, AK-47) Fires ‘rifle’ rounds.
sub-machine gun = a bit of a misnomer. Should be called a sub-assault rifle. Fires pistol ammo (hence the ‘sub’ prefix). (i.e. MP5, Uzi, etc)
semi-auto = an action in which a single trigger pull fires *one* round and *reloads* the next round vs ‘full-auto’ that fires multiple rounds with a single trigger pull.
The weapon she is holding is an H&K MP5K-PDW *Sub*-machine gun.
Small correction – the M-16 doesn’t have full-auto mode. It has semi-auto and a 3-round burst, but it is illegal for us (military) to carry fully automatic assault rifles (like the AKs) or to modify them to be fully automatic.
Yeah, and it MIGHT be that she’s just shooting at a target. Holy crud. If you have to come up with such a ridiculous MIGHT to justify child abuse, I’M PRETTY SURE IT’S NOT CHILD ABUSE.
How did you manage to miss the sarcasm in his comment about the apple? Holy crud, if you’re that oblivious maybe you shouldn’t make ridiculous comments trying to justify your own stupidity?
Lizz clearly is exactly the kind of person that get’s worked up over people trying to “take away her second amendment rights”. Which basically means she’s not the brightest bulb on the pile of bricks short of a load carried by an anthropomorphized knife which was not the sharpest one in the drawer. Which is why that knife had to go and carry loads of bricks with lights on them.
That appears to be an H&K SP89. A very nice semi-auto 9mm. The front grip handle is illegal in the US, I believe. I know it is in California. So, is this photo in another country, I wonder?
It’s wonderful to teach our children the proper respect, safety, and use of firearms, along with the freedom of owning them that comes with being an American.
It’s a fully automatic, not semi – look at her selector lever. “S” is for Sicher, which is German for safe; “E” = einzelfeuer, which is single-shot (semi); and “F” is for feuerstoss, which is continuous fire (fully auto). She’s got it on “F”.
The gun was an MP5 select fire (Safe, Semi and Full Auto). The front handle is only illegal if attached to a Handgun (as would be the shoulder stock) which this is not.
Yeah I’m with you. Plus if you look at her selector lever, it’s on “F” – German for “Feuerstoss,” or continuous fire. (E = “Einzelfeuer” (single shot) and S = “sicher” (safe)) This is def. a fully automatic.
Dee Dee, I don’t know how much you know about guns but you can’t get all those spent cartridges in the air like that unless it’s fully automatic. Fully automatic means machine gun. Of course the whole picture could be a fake, for all we know. But what it depicts is a little girl shooting a machine gun.
About whether it’s child abuse or not, I say it is. You may disagree, but it has nothing to do with other people’s right to raise their kids like they want. If they burned her with a cigarette, would that be ok for you? Of course not. That would be child abuse.
I’d say allowing a kid that young to play violent video games would be wrong, letting her shoot a machine gun is very wrong.
Letting your child be raised by the TV is a true type of child abuse, not shooting a firearm with adult supervision. She is more than likely having a great time with her family. Teaching responsibilities and the difference between right and wrong when it comes to subjects like firearms, drugs and sex should be approached at an early age, before a child learns the hard way. Also, there is no such thing as an “Assault Rifle”. It was a term coined by the anti-gun, anti-Second Amendment, Brady Bill campaign to scare people not familiar with firearms and regulations. You can commit “assault” with pretty much anything, even hitting someone with whip cream pie is assault.
We call ‘em assault rifles in the Army, because we can carry them and fire them while assaulting an objective – as opposed to, say, a machine gun, which you have to emplace.
Brian – From what I understand the front grip makes it to be an “assault weapon” that is on the banned list. I am clueless as to how anyone determined that, frankly. I worked in a gun shop for two years, and that is what they told us. Take that front grip off, and it’s fine. But someone could just as easily hold the magazine or just hold the barrel, I imagine. Very strange.
Dirk – The trigger setting is on “F” so it very well could be a fully automatic weapon.
mikeb – I’m not sure how the sport of shooting can be seen as child abuse, especially when compared to rubbing a butt out on some kids arm, but OK. We can disagree.
It’s not the front grip, but the barrel length. Anything less than 16in with a butt stock (in other words, a rifle or shotgun with a barrel less than 16in) is considered a Class III weapon. That doesn’t make it illegal, you just have to pay an additional tax. The ‘front grip’ has nothing to do with it – at least at the Federal Level. States may make their own laws, however.
In short, Class III is any weapon with any of the following characteristics:
- Fully automatic (meaning 2 or more rounds fired with one trigger pull)
- Sound suppressors
- Rifle or shotgun with ‘short’ barrel (basically, any weapon with a stock)
- pistol with ‘long’ barrel (basically, any weapon without a stock)
This weapon has two characteristics: ‘short’ barrel and fully auto. Again, it is not illegal to own these, you just have to pay an extra ‘Class III’ tax (usually about and extra $200).
It might be different when classifying weapons in the civilian sector, but in the military we use the M-16A2 (and now the M4 – basically same thing, but with shorter barrel and collapsible butt-stock), and they fire 3-round bursts but are not classified as fully auto.
This is a fully automatic MP5K machine gun. The picture was taken in Oregon. The weapon is not illegal, nor is allowing children to shoot them in a supervised environment.
Whacos. Idiots. No wonder there are over 10,000 deaths a year in the US from ‘responsible’ people shooting each other. And should certainly be illegal.
Really, learning how to shoot a weapon is child abuse? Wow, I am abusing all three of my kids then. All 3 target practice with their dad weekly and I would say they are pretty happy, well-adjusted kids. I think this parent should be commended for teaching safety and responsibility with a firearm!
It IS a full auto weapon
It IS a legal weapon
NO IT IS NOT child abuse (WTF is wrong with you?)
This is my daughter, and we enjoy shooting together.
The photo was taken at a full auto shoot at the Albany gun club in Oregon.
The level of training and forethought that she and I both put into shooting weapons is a point of pride in our family.
Children are very capable of doing activities that require concentration and intent.
btw, there are range masters and the owner of the gun as well as myself within reach of her and the weapon… (though she didnt need any help she handled it very well.)
I think it’s just hard for some people to imagine what a child will do with this skill and they might be offended by seeing such a young child with such a deadly weapon. . . I get that…but I think it’s great that you are teaching her in a safe environment. My Dad taught me to shoot when I was young too and I turned out just fine and loved the time spent with me Dad. I don’t own a gun now but I know how to use one. It’s nice to see Dad’s spending time with their kids.
@ ben : i think this is a awesome pic of ur daughter. one for great memories way down the line. i would be so proud of my daughter. great job!! some of these ppl on here are retarded and obviously don’t think before they reply with nonsense.
This is responsible firearms usage. All of my children are being properly educated on the history, safety / usage, and maintenance of firearms. Each will have their own rifles and a gun of their choice as they grow older.

-what COUNTRY do YOU live in, and HOW LONG HAS AMERICA BEEN PROTECTING IT?
Good for you teaching your daughter how to shoot! My 3 sisters and I were all taught how to shoot at the age of 12 by our father and we all loved it. Your daughter looks much younger than my sisters and I were when we learned, but she appears to be having fun. I am glad to see there are still parents out there that believe that children are capable of handling firearms.
I plan on teaching my children to shoot when they are ready, I think 3 is a little young to start my children.
It is a form of child abuse. That type of gun and the skills you give them to use it are there for one reason and one reason only. To kill other folk. To blow the intestines of any person you and yours take a dislike to out of big holes that appear magically in their back. And julie, if you dont see that, that is truly retarded.
I wish I could shoot a gun. I can’t hit a target to save my life. Chances are, that girl is better than I am when it comes to marksmanship. I note that the true irony of the image seems to be lost on a lot of you: she’s in a peace sign outfit shooting a gun. That is the joke. We do not need to go on about where this is, and if the weapon is legal, we just need to laugh and move on. Seriously.
The people that claim this is ‘child abuse’ have never been abused themselves. And that makes me sick to see this labeled as child abuse. STFU, pansies.
Letting a CHILD wield a deadly weapon isn’t child abuse, but it sure as heck isn’t good parenting. As for America with the whole “right to bear arms” crapola, I’m just glad I live in a country that doesn’t encourage or need private citizens to own deadly weapons for their own protection.
come on people, that’s definitely a fake! the gun looks like plastic and the peace signs are clearly photoshopped! ;)
no seriously, i feel a little bit bad when i see pics like this and i fully understand that some people are worried of the future of our children. some age limits would do us all a favor. but it’s just one opinion in the big pool of billions. what if this girl was chinese or afgan? would the american gun lovers defend her too? i don’t think so… still, every person – child or adult – in this world has right to defend his/herself.
‘Merica.
That’s child abuse.
Teaching your daughter to defend herself is not child abuse.
right on dave. i mean how the heck is that CHILD abuse. coooommmme on ppl
