Um- actually i thought that peahens were a mottled grey-brown, when they were of normal coloring, and that either sex could be white as a result of albinism.
No they are not. They are typically light tan to brown. If they were white they wouldn’t be able to camouflage themselves and would be killed. Only genetically white male peacocks and pied peacocks have the white plumage.
you don’t think white is colorful enough? i see what your saying, but comparing it to all the others, and it’s environment, white is a pretty colorful color.
The peahens don’t choose the most colorful, or albinism would not exist. They choose the most impressive display, which includes fullness of feathers, and the way they strut.
Actually you’re both correct. Albinism is a genetic mutation that apparently does not affect the selection of males by peahens. If it did, it wouldn’t be passed down to future generations as commonly as it apparently is.
Actually, peacocks come in all sorts of beautiful colors. Blue, green, black and white are the ones most predominant. I doubt this guy will have trouble finding a chick. :)
i’m pretty sure it’s a piebald peacock. it’s a sort of coloration that results in both white and normal coloration. usually these are rather rare, and it’s exceedingly difficult to breed this sort of coloration.
It’s a pied peacock. They’re really not that rare or hard to breed. In fact, I have to be careful when I bring in new lines to my peacocks because I’m breeding for different colors instead of pied, and they’re pretty common. Peacocks come in a huge variety of colors, and there’s actually different species as well.
Just like our president!
Are you kidding? Its Michael Jackson! Colored, and gradually turning white!
Ru Paul?
Lord Shen?!?
I wish more peacocks had white feathers. I think they are beautiful.
they’re kind of grungy looking, but all female peacocks are actually white.
Ha whoops didn’t think before I typed. PeaHENS (the female peafowl) are the ones that are white. Female peacock is oxymoronic.. :)

Two Face of the animal kingdom…
Gotta be proud of the two-tone plume.
I wonder if this will help or hurt when trying to win the love of a peahen?
so beautiful looking.
It saddens me,because the female only chooses the one with the most colorful feathers.

albinism is a mutation. you dont breed it.
@tierra
-wish this was facebook so i could ‘like’ that comment.
actually u can breed albinism in rare cases it has been shown to work in certain animals i dont know about peacocks though.

Look! It’s Lady Gaga!

I really hate to be this guy but look closely, I’m pretty sure it’s just a photoshop mash-up between an albino peacock and a normal one.
This is shopped. I can tell by the pixels and from having seen alot of shops in my time.
ha
It’s yet another example of partial albinism<3 So pretty owo
Nah, pretty sure the sky would still be blue behind the white feathers if it were real…
