So as an evolutionary biologist I guess I’m not much fun to point out that skeletal evidence suggests that most hunter-gatherers before the invention of agriculture actually lived well into their 60′s and 70′s if they made it past child-hood. Unfortunately hunting and gathering can only support small populations and they were displaced by populations that engaged in agriculture. Ag allows for large populations on small amounts of land because of intensification of resource extraction. This led to the rise of cities (and more influentially armies) since not every member of the society had to produce their own food. This also led to extremely poor sanitary conditions and the beginning of the first ‘crowd’ diseases like influenza and syphilis. These types of societies came to dominate human territories and it is these arrangements we associate with ‘not living past 30′. Ok I’m done, sorry.
Wow, check out all the people who hate facts. They like to sit around pretending eating right and exercising is a “waste of time”, when it’s actually just doing what you’re supposed to. Excuses to destroy the environment, themselves, and be lazy.
Although your piece is very informational, it has little to do with the joke in the cartoon. The only conclusion I can draw is that the “organic” cavement lived into their 60′s & 70′s, and today’s humans lived into their 70′s as well. Thus, being organic has absolutely no affect at all.
Is that so bad? Who wants to live to the age of being old?
Granted with inflation over the eras, we’ve actually digressed; living to the age of 100 today, was like living to the age of 20 back then.
Dinos…eat you.
Whole Foods…eat your wallet.
Screwed at either end of the evolutionary chain.
Now where did I put that box of Ho-Hos?

To many scorned cave women you dragged into your cave…you have to sleep sometime! BAM

Don’t be sorry. I actually read your post and now I feel smarter!
ditto
Lies.
So as an evolutionary biologist I probably shouldn’t be talking about anthropology since it isn’t my field of specialization.
fixed.
True and true

I love your response. :)

The alternative is dying young.
I think there is no problem for cavemen and living in cave , that’s good experience for people
What happened here? The cartoon is funny, and Jeff’s comment is interesting. Why all the snark?
I’m with Maxine. But living in a cave, I would think 30 couldn’t come fast enough…
