9 last meals chosen by death row inmates
Photographer James Reynolds has taken “a series of photographs documenting former Death Row prisoners’ requests for their last meal before execution.”
The more I look at these, the sadder they become.
There’s nothing gross about these images, but looking at them still makes me feel nauseated. I imagine looking down at that tray and knowing it would be the last thing I’d ingest.
I can’t imagine having an appetite. And it’s quite clear from some of these prisoner’s choices that they don’t.
Depressing as the question is… Which of these would you choose if you had to?
I’d probably go with the Pall Malls. Or maybe the fruit, depending on how sentimental I was feeling.

this post makes me want to cry.
me too. ;( they just wrote me out of hospital today but here at home it feels even more like a prison. i’d choose the one with 6 coke bottles (old coke addict), or the one with the olive. i’d want to have it behind me as soon as possible. :/ chewing through all those normally so tasty fruits would be hell with the coming death anxiety inside.
Most of these meals are pretty straight-forward, though. I found plenty of bizarre ones while researching my book!—Ty Treadwell, author of Last Suppers: Famous Final Meals from Death Row

No. 6 – a donut. Maybe the last meal of a sentenced ex-cop?
I’d probably go with a piece of bread and a glass of wine. ;)
wow, that’s really morbid! :-) I’m speaking tomorrow on freedom, and I’m reminded how Christ sets us prisoners free! (inside!)
Where’s the 5th of vodka with that olive? =D
Texas used to list the last meal requests of death row inmates. Most requested steak, but I still remember seeing one inmate ordered up a package of Jolly Ranchers. This seemed really odd, until you realize how long it would take to get through a package of Jolly Ranchers.
Since that was in Texas, maybe he was requesting a REAL jolly rancher. Maybe he wanted to pass his final hours talking about raising cattle, and roping steers, and branding colts. Just a thought…—Ty Treadwell, author of Last Suppers: Famous Final Meals from Death Row

you shouldnt be sad considering many of these people had to do pretty horrible things to get to that point.
i dont believe in the death penalty tho because the possibility of them being innocent
