George Orwell’s thoughts on Facebook’s Like button?

I’m going to click Like on this post not to show that I actually like this application of George Orwell, but because I don’t agree that Orwell’s quote applies to clicking any of the various Buttons of Admiration online. But I’m not going to say why I don’t think it applies, because I’m too lazy, and the single click is just so convenient.

…So maybe I don’t disagree with this appropriation of 1984, after all.…

Nope, I still do.

It’s been four minutes and I’m still sitting here thinking about this – I’m leaving the computer now to go find someone to talk to.

It’s amazing how much of Orwell’s writing which seemed crazy at the time has either come true or become possible. 1984 could be a very possible reality at this point.

pretty sure that’s a gross misapplication… the like button implies some form of like for the post, but like the author said… he liked it because he DISAGREED. the like button is actually a simple way to get across complex ideas, often contextually based. so not at all like the quote implies.
