    Chain letters have been around long before email. They just didn’t usually come with a threat attached that I’m aware of.

      Back in the day if you broke the chain, bad luck and even death would be the result. That was how the pyramid schemes got started, by sending a dollar, you were to get ten back, if no one broke the chain. 1980″s was popular for this sort of thing.
