A freaking huge dog

I don’t know enough about Newfoundlands or photo manipulation to say whether this is real or fake. What do you think?

Until there’s a consensus one way or the other, I’m going with real… I like to be amazed.

    Forced perspective, most likely.

  2. tancy says:

    fake….check out the vet tech’s right hand….

  3. Brandy says:

It’s photoshopped. Notice the rail size and the distortion of the railing at the top and the blending around the arm

    • brady says:

Not photoshopped, look at the line in the back from wall to ceiling, it is straight. And if you google dog grooming table they have seperated arms for diff size dogs

  4. Emily says:

The way they took the picture…
    Newfies get HUGE!!!

  5. John says:

Umm…I’ve got some ocean front property here in Oklahoma I’d like to sell you…I’ll send photos…I’ll make you a good deal

  6. Pete says:

I know Newfs and have handled them professionally…though they are big…(some over 200lbs) they aren’t that big (obv photoshop). However, on another note they do have webbed feet and have been said to pull fishing boats into land that have had engine failure. Awesome dogs…drool a lot…also a sign of a pure Newf is a spotted tongue!

  7. Kevin says:

Not photoshopped u can see its reflection in the metal pole off to the side

  8. Keith says:

paint him red and call him clifford. Win.

  9. Whitney says:

I would say both lol. could be an actual picture then photoshopped to make the dog bigger

  10. Tre says:

It’s perspective. The vet tech is way in the back of the dog and the table is also raised but if you’re not paying attention it makes it seem like the dog is 8′ tall.

  11. Shane Seaton says:

On a personal note this fake photo was taken on my birthday.

  12. Tony C says:

It’s SOOO real, and so is the freaky doll in the background. I’d run away from both.

  13. Corban says:

According to image error level analysis, it seems to not be photo-shopped, suggesting forced perspective, as has already been mentioned.

You can see the results of the analysis at http://errorlevelanalysis.com/permalink/cafd7c9/ and read more about image error level analysis at http://errorlevelanalysis.com/

  14. Andrew says:

Forget the Newfie…Look at the size of the pug in the picture on the way! HUGE! This must be some monster dog factory…

    • Beet Salad says:

      The pug was definitely photoshopped.

And clearly, the vet tech is an elf and that dog is a hell hound. Geez, it’s so obvious.

  15. Anonymous says:

I can’t evaluate for photoshopping or not, but one thing I know for sure is that nothing will bring out the comments like the question of whether an image is photoshopped or not. (Whether you actually ask the question or not.) Everyone’s a geek when it comes to this. “Behold my image manipulation detection skillz!” I find it amusing.

Damn big dog in any case.

  16. Tim Coates says:

The dog isn’t that big, but the woman is really, really small.

  17. I call forced perspective.

  18. stan cole says:

And the result of the poll is?

  19. J242 says:

The largest dog in the world is George, a 7ft long Great Dane. You can look him up online. Been on Oprah, set the Guinness World record and more. The lady in the pic is really tiny. Look at the size of her in comparison to the poster on the wall behind her.

  20. adam says:

It isn’t shopped, too many things line up too perfectly to be photoshopped, however it is definitely a forced perspective picture.

  21. barb says:

I don’t think it was photoshopped. Look at the table — the table is about hip high. Add that, lots of fur and a forced perspective.

  22. scott says:

ok say hes real sitting he looks 8 to 9 feet sitting up on his hind legs 14 to 15 feet i dont think so and how huch does he eat a day ?

  23. jeffmenz says:

I’m 99.9% its not photoshopped and doesn’t use _heavy_ perspective for 3 reasons:

    1) If you use google image search to search for the image (by copying the location and putting it in to google, it will analyze and search for similar pictures), you’ll fine non-cropped pictures of the room that seem to give a better idea of some objects that you might know the size of and can relate to the dog.

    2) If you look closely, there’s the power cord for an electric razer that goes from the girl’s left hand, around her arm, to the front of her arm, and then passes in front of the dog, off the table. So, she is not that far behind the dog.

    3) The dog is standing on all fours, the fur near the girl on the table has been shaved off, so the dog is in the middle of a grooming (or haircut for surgery).

The dog is probably standing on all fours facing as straight on to the camera as possible, so when you look at it, the dog’s face is the closes part (light perspective for this picture), thus appearing large.

If you scan the picture quickly, the fur on the table kinda makes it look like the dog is sitting, therefore appearing that he is very tall, even when sitting, although he is on a table and is next to a short woman.

Yes, I wasted waaaay too much time thinking about this.

  24. Veronica says:

This dog is real. My sister works with Newfis and other large breed dogs. This is 100% real

  25. mike says:

shopped or perspective this is not real. Newfs are big but not that big look at the groomers restraint bar compared to the groomers arm, look at the size of the table compared to the groomer – no restraint arms or groomer tables are that big. A heavy duty groomer arm is 1″ square. This one compared to the groomers (girl) arm would have to be 3 to 4 times that. Also the biggest grooming tables are about 42″ long by 24″ wide this table would have to be at least 5 ft by 3 ft. As to the pug puppy in the background that’s just an extreme close-up with a wide angle lens.

  26. Princess Peach says:

    Ukrainian Ovcharka Big ass dog!

  27. Dorothea says:

Definitely not real! I breed and raise Great Pyrenees and although they are not genetically related to the Newfoundlands they are so close in size and appearance that for centuries they were believed to be the same type of breed, Pyrs white, Newfs black, just from different countries. I raise some really big dogs and that one would be in the record books if it was real.

  28. Shell says:

I vote that the dog *is* insanely huge but it is also exaggerated by people who don’t realize he is sitting on a table, by the vet tech being further back, and by the vet tech being more on the petite side as well.

  29. Missy Penney says:

I live in Newfoundland. I have see Newfoundland Dogs this big… but rarely. I am 5’4″ tall and have met Newfoundland Dogs that did not have to stand on their hind legs to lick my face. It may be forced perspective, but even if it is, it is not out of the realm of possibility.

  30. Ronan says:

Not fake. There is a woman who lives in my town who owns a Newfoundland who takes him/her on walks by my house every day.

  31. Chris Peters says:

Not photoshopped and maybe a little forced perspective. They used a wider angle lens, maybe like a 14mm non-fisheye and she is standing near the rear of the dog. So there is a little bit of illusion of the dog being huge, but not shopped in my opinion.
The wide angle is the trick, then the camera can be inches from the dog’s face and still capture the whole scene.

  32. jreddog1 says:

Maybe the Vet Tech is just smaller.

  33. Bree says:

The dog /IS/ real and that big. I can’t remember the breed it is, but they’re all huge and weigh a lot. Very expensive, I’ve heard.

  34. Bree says:

    Oh, haha. Newfoundland dog :).

  35. Waylon Delucian says:

Dog grooming is not simply an aesthetic bonus for our canine friends. Maintaining a regular grooming schedule will help to keep your dog both happy and healthy. Routine dog grooming will ensure that your dog is free of parasites, has healthy skin and a shiny coat, and has good dental health. Of course, the aesthetic benefits are also a plus. Only a true dog lover wants to be around a dirty, stinky dog with bad breath. Proper dog grooming will bring out the best in man’s best friend. …
