6 amazing optical illusions
In the April 1971 issue of New Scientist magazine, Allan Neil present his new type of optical illusion…
Full scale research has not yet begun on the information-processing mechanisms which respond to the subtle factors in these illusions, but the preliminary studies have not overestimated their importance.
Here are 6 examples of these truly remarkable illusions…

Amazing, huh?

I’ve seen most of these before, but I think 6 might not be real. I can’t see any figure to begin with.
Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it isn’t real.
I still don’t know what ‘owto’ is.
Haha!
i snorted
Haha I am pretty sure these are all fake.
Clearly photoshopped. Meh.
Ya think?
(It’s a joke, everyone can tell this, so instead of looking clever by spotting the “photoshop” you look ridiculous)

It’s not a joke, though everyone doubts this, so instead of missing the point and looking obdurate, you smile . . and close your eyes . . and see it clear
Dude, funny.
tee hee
I hate it when optical illusions violate time reversal.
Favorite phrase: “Debate waxed luxuriantly.”
The rest of the 1971 New Scientist is worth checking out (publication date April 1, 1971, of course). http://books.google.com/books?id=Ge35wKZLmNsC
On page 26, next to an article talking up the imminent arrival of holographic storage (still waiting….), there’s commentary about the newfangled LEDs: “…[N]o one really knows just how far [the price] must fall before LEDs begin to really bite into the market–some put this at $20 million to 25 million in the United States alone. … Companies in the gas discharge display tube field say ther are not at all concerned.”
Note how this issue appears to be an April Fool’s prank.
And here I spent all morning feeling dumb… :)
I still feel dumb.
All but 5 and 6 are valid, if you imagine how they could be in three dimensional life.
Doubters! Of course the April 1 date is a coincidence!
I love it
#6 is a picture of cute cat sleeping in a box. I don’t know why you all can’t see it.
Someone must have photoshopped it out of the picture on my computer. lol. catz. :)
The key word in #4 is “boxes” – not squares! I think these aren’t optical illusions as much as they’re riddles.
That’s incredible! I get most of them but that pipe really looks bent and no matter how quick I look away I still can’t see number 6. I even tried wearing a see through blindfold – didn’t work. I think it’s like those sensors you get on the fridge light – they know when you’re looking somehow.
I’m a little nervous. Are people really thinking these are for real?!
no
Number 6 is a snow leopard. You have to look away and take a screen capture.
Number 6 is CLEARLY a donkey riding a unicycle.
#6 is CLEARLY a polar bear in a snowstorm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
