    A friend (engine conductor) once told me they are not allowed to ‘SLAM’ on the brakes because the friction warps both the wheels and the rails.
    Kinda nice to actually see what he meant.

    We have a train museum in town with a piece of melted track like that. I think the sign says it took about 30 seconds to happen.
