2 Venn diagrams explaining coffee drinks

But, really, for most of us, it doesn’t need to be any more complicated than this…

I know I’m in over my head culturally when I say, “I’d like to have a cup of coffee, please” and they look at me as if I haven’t said anything yet.
Ha. Yeah I usually order something fancy sounding. I have no idea what it means beyond “lots and lots of added sugar.”
Wait – if I’m reading this right, there’d be chocolate in Cappuccinos? That’s not right…
There is chocolate ON a cappuccino, that confused me too to start with. I think I would have been facetious and tagged “water”
Hot chocolate is a coffee drink?
There’s NO water in an espresso? Just pure coffee? Just the beans?
I have been getting duped all these years.
I would make a wild assumption that the blue in the chart is water, and the little polka-dotted circle is the coffee.
But I could be wrong . . .
Oh Yes. The first diagram certainly helps in the demystification of coffee drinks…
“Study to show yourself approved…” ;)
I was a barista for about 10 years and this diagram is still confusing me. Maybe because it is sloppy and possibly incorrect. I am getting a headache trying to figure it out. I much prefer the diagram on the bottom.
But maybe this is the diagram they teach with at Starbuck, which would explain the looks I get when I order coffee there.
Take this info from a barista (PLEASE): THERE IS NO CHOCOLATE IN A CAPPUCCINO!
A cappuccino is espresso, foam, and a little bit of milk. A mocha (does anyone actually call it a mochaccino???) is espresso, chocolate, and milk. A machiatto is foam and espresso.
Check out http://theoatmeal.com/comics/coffee for a better understanding of it all.
Also-my boyfriend from Boston orders and iced coffee, which is double strength regular coffee and ice (versus regular drip coffee and ice, making it weak and lame sauce).
If a hot chocolate is in here, then so should chai I think.
The Venn diagram is wrongly labelled, cappuccino doesn’t consist chocolate. For the corrected Venn diagram please visit http://nimalnaser.blogspot.com/2012/01/coffee-venn-diagram.html.
Love your blog! The correction is highly appreciated. Well done!
